Menstrual health is a reproductive justice issue.

Black women and girls are disproportionately impacted by limited access to menstrual products, and stigma surrounding reproductive health conversations. These barriers can affect school attendance, workplace participation, physical health, and overall well-being.

Menstrual hygiene means more than access to products — it means access to education and care.

We're excited to share that we have a new research study! The STEP Study (Screening To Engage in Prevention) will look at HIV and STI screening options—including self‑testing—and how they help women access care and prevention options.

Our goal: lower barriers, improve access, and help women understand how to use testing as a preventative measure.

Regular STI testing is an important part of overall health — especially because many STIs have no symptoms.

Testing helps protect you and allows for early treatment when needed. Prevention tools like condoms, routine screening, and open communication all matter.

Your health is worth the conversation.

Black women continue to face disproportionately high rates of pregnancy-related complications and maternal mortality in the United States. These inequities are driven not by biology, but by systemic racism, bias, and barriers to quality care.

Black Maternal Health Week is a time to honor the voices and experiences of Black mamas, their families and advocates working to create a more just and equitable future.

At SHEER Lab, we believe maternal health is a reproductive justice matter — and every person deserves safe, respectful, culturally responsive care before, during, and after pregnancy.

Sexually transmitted infections are common — but stigma and misinformation can make it harder for people to seek testing and treatment.

Getting tested is not something to be ashamed of. It’s an act of self-care.

The more we normalize conversations about sexual health, the more we support healthier communities.
