Sometimes “I’m fine” doesn’t mean you’re fine.
It means you don’t want to explain everything. You don’t want to worry anyone. You’re afraid of being misunderstood - or you simply don’t know how to put what you’re feeling into words yet.
But there’s often a contradiction: you say you’re okay while secretly hoping someone will notice that you’re not.
You don’t have to share everything with everyone. But with the people you trust, being honest can start with something as simple as: “I’m not really okay, but I’m not ready to talk about it yet.”
Sometimes being understood starts with allowing yourself to be seen.
Save this if “I’m fine” has ever meant something completely different.
