⚠️ THE WRONG MATERIALS CAN COMPROMISE THE AIR INSIDE A SALT CAVE
Building a professional salt cave requires much more than attaching Himalayan salt to the walls. Every construction material, adhesive, coating, furnishing, and decorative element must be carefully selected for a salt-rich, humidity-controlled environment.
Materials that are safe in an ordinary home may not be suitable inside a commercial salt therapy room. Decorative pillows and fabrics can collect salt particles, moisture, dust, body oils, fragrances, and cleaning residue. Branches and unfinished wood are difficult to sanitize and may eventually dry out, flake, or deteriorate.
Cement, concrete, adhesives, sealants, and coatings can also be affected by salt and moisture. If unsuitable products begin breaking down or releasing particles, odors, or chemical emissions, the ventilation system may distribute those contaminants throughout the room. Chemically sensitive clients may experience irritation, discomfort, dizziness, or headaches—the opposite of the clean, relaxing experience they expected.
Before any material is approved for salt cave construction, professionals should evaluate:
• Salt and moisture compatibility
• VOC and emissions documentation
• Cleanability and sanitation
• Corrosion resistance
• Long-term durability
• Proper installation and curing
• Protection of mechanical and electrical systems
A beautiful salt cave is not necessarily a properly constructed salt cave. The materials behind the salt, and the decorations placed inside the room, are just as important as what clients can see.
