Flu and COVID shots are here at Sawyer Street Hometown Pharmacy.
Call, stop in, or book online.
Ask about RSV, pneumonia and shingles at the same visit too.
People ask us all the time if its vaccines or vitamins.
Our answer is usually both when it makes sense (lifestyle first :) )
Conventional medicine and functional medicine each see things the other one misses. The best care is usually in the middle.

The vaccines train your immune system.
The nutrient basics give it something to work with.

Some simple foundations (food first then supplements if needed)
Vitamin D. We like to see levels between 40 and 60 ng/mL.
Omega 3s. Aim for an Omega 3 Index above 8%.
Protein with every meal, whole foods, and move every day.

Not sure what you need? Ask Amber, Kristin, Karen, JJ or anyone on our team and we’ll sort it out

Always enjoy the conversations at Learning in Retirement at Evergreen

The theme today is optimism with a filter.

I’ll be talking about AI, health, longevity, and some of the moonshots happening in medicine.

Remarkable things are coming in medicine.

There is a lot to be excited about, but also a lot of hype. My goal is to help people navigate that line. What is real today, what is promising, and what is mostly marketing.

We’ll talk about things like AlphaFold and AI in drug discovery, but also peptides, where I think there is some very interesting biology mixed in with a lot of noise.

I’m very bullish on where all of this is going. The challenge right now is figuring out which tools are actually worth paying attention to.

09/16/2026

There’s probably never been a more interesting time to pay attention to health.

GLP-1 drugs like semaglutide and tirzepatide are peptides, and they’ve become some of the biggest breakthroughs in medicine. AI, new diagnostics, and longevity tools are moving fast too.
That’s exciting. But whenever something new takes off, the junk usually follows.

We saw it with C*D. Real science, some real benefit, and then claims for just about everything. Peptides are starting to feel a little similar.

Dr. JJ Allen, PharmD, will be speaking at Learning in Retirement at Evergreen on Tuesday, September 22. As a pharmacist and sports nutritionist working across conventional and functional medicine, JJ will focus on peptides from first principles and an overarching question:
What actually works, what looks promising, and what is mostly hype?

Peptides will be a big part of it, but all health questions are welcome.

Every time we get together at the Oshkosh Seniors Center, the room packs out and the questions run long past the hour. I love it. So here is what is on the docket this time.

The talk is called Calming the Fire Within, and it is all about inflammation. Not the scary version, the useful version. Once you understand what it really is, a whole set of options opens up that most people never hear about.

Here is the plan:

Inflammation, or the ambulance that never leaves
Lifestyle, your real first line of defense
The nutrients your body uses as raw material
Calocurb and the GLP-1 story, and how to nudge your own
Low dose naltrexone, the low-risk tool most folks have never heard of
And plenty of time for your questions

I will be straight with you the whole way, what we actually know and what we only think we know. That is the deal.

See you there.

It's been rewarding to watch. Patients moving away from higher-risk medications. Toward LDN and lifestyle.

It's live. Our pharmacist, Dr. J.J. Allen, sat down with Linda Elsegood, founder of the LDN Research Trust, for their radio show, and the full interview is now out.

The LDN Research Trust is the leading global organization for low dose naltrexone (LDN) education, connecting patients, prescribers, and pharmacists worldwide since 2004.

In this conversation, Dr. Allen talks about how LDN may help people living with fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and other autoimmune and chronic pain conditions, often as a lower-risk option that can reduce reliance on higher-risk medications. He gets into why finding the right personalized dose makes all the difference, and why quality matters at every step, from the clean way we compound our LDN capsules (no dyes, no unnecessary fillers) to the careful vetting behind every supplement on our shelves.
