I’m currently doing a post grad homeopathy professional mentorship program and during our first, we somehow ended up talking about something in our office /space that was really meaningful to us. I honestly can’t remember exactly what the question was, but I immediately knew what I would grab.
This letter from my dad.
When I was in junior high, my dad fell off a roof and was pretty seriously injured. We had a big figure skating competition coming up that we were supposed to travel to together, but because of his accident he couldn’t drive, so he wrote me this letter and tucked it into my skating bag.
I’ve kept it ever since, and it’s one of my most prized possessions.
When my dad died, strangely enough, this letter was one of the first things that came to mind. I had patients scheduled that day, some traveling hours to see me, and I knew exactly what he would have told me. Keep going, carry on, don’t let what happened to me interfere with something you’ve worked so hard for.
Which is essentially what he had written to me all those years ago.
And I just think it’s kind of incredible that something he wrote when he couldn’t be there for me as a kid would be exactly what I needed to hear decades later when he couldn’t be there anymore.
There’s no significant date today, no anniversary or particular reason to share this. It’s just something that’s been on my mind since that mentorship conversation.
Funny how some of the smallest things end up being the ones we carry with us forever 🫶🏼💛🥹
