People ask me what I do for fun.
I think 🙃
So this Mother’s Day, these are the thoughts I had from my relaxing bath: that mothers are necessarily cut off from our support systems.
That the Earth Element makes the world go round, whether it’s infected with Patriarchy or running in Matriarchal health.
That under Patriarchy, Earth is necessarily abused. And part of that abuse is cutting the Earth off from what nourishes it: Water.
In TCM, the Water Element is everything that came before you. And if you’re disconnected from that, then what Patriarchy offers you in its stead is what you’ll willingly grab on to: a life driven by stress and cortisol and depletion because hey, it at least is propelling you forward.
So this Mother’s Day, think about those who came before you.
And if you don’t know those ancestors, that’s actually better. I always encourage people to skip back a few generations to the thought of an ancestor to whom you have no connection.
Start with her.
Not knowing them is better because it activates imagination rather than biography, which is a different kind of truth that we rarely access as a grounding pole.
Think on her. That ancestor from the 1600s. Or 10bc. Or who ever your brain conjures.
Happy Mother’s Day to you. And to her.
She’s why you’re here.
