"The Sunshine Spice"
Research is exploring its role in mood, stress resilience, and emotional well-being.
As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we're highlighting a fascinating nutrient that has gained attention in the research community: saffron.
Often called the "Sunshine Spice," saffron has been studied for its potential role in supporting healthy mood, emotional well-being, and stress resilience.
An important distinction: most of the research has utilized standardized saffron extracts, typically around 28–30 mg daily, rather than culinary saffron used in cooking.
That doesn't mean culinary saffron lacks value. Adding saffron threads to tea, rice, soups, or other dishes can be an enjoyable way to incorporate this traditional spice into a wellness-focused lifestyle. However, the clinical studies evaluating mood support have generally used standardized extracts to ensure consistent levels of the active compounds.
At The Center for Intentional Health, we believe mental wellness is about more than a single supplement. Brain health is influenced by nutrition, sleep, stress physiology, hormones, inflammation, movement, relationships, and nervous system regulation.
Small, intentional choices can make a meaningful difference.
