As we wrap up NICU Awareness Month, and we're celebrating the team that cares for our tiniest patients.

Over the past year, our Level III NICU team has cared for more than 357 babies, providing specialized care and support to some of our region's smallest patients and their families.

From expert medical care to celebrating milestones and supporting families, the Owensboro Health NICU team is there every step of the journey!

As a 30-year-old medical assistant in a doctor’s clinic, Kelsi Higdon's extra weight made it difficult to endure a day’s work. And when she got home, she didn't have any energy left for her kids.

But after weight-loss surgery with Dr. Ravi Alapati at Owensboro Health, she has lost 138 pounds and is enjoying a happier, healthier life.

Read her story at OwensboroHealth.org/PatientSuccess.

Congratulations to Danielle Gardner, RN for being recognized as a DAISY Award Winner!

Danielle has been a nurse at OHMCH for 4 years and was inspired to enter healthcare by her family experiences.

Danielle was nominated by a patient she provided care for during a time of crisis. The patient commended Danielle for her professionalism and more importantly, for her compassion; she said Danielle never left her side when she needed care most.

The DAISY Award is a globally recognized program that honors the exceptional and compassionate care provided by nurses on a daily basis. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes in memory of his passing due to complications from an autoimmune disease in 1999. The foundation was created as a way to express gratitude to nurses for the care and support they provided to Patrick and his family during his hospitalization.

Congrats, Danielle! We are so proud of you!

This weekend, the community will come together for the Stronger Than 1 - 5K Race and Family Fun Mile, but one participant is already making an impact beyond race day.

Beau Elschide, who lives with type 1 diabetes, recently joined Chad and Mary-Katherine on air to share his passion for diabetes education. Alongside Shelby Shelby, Diabetes Educator, he discussed the upcoming Stronger Than 1 - 5K and Family Fun Mile, his experience with Owensboro Health's HP Diabetes Program and the impact the program has had on his journey.

Beau's story is a powerful reminder that education, support and determination can make a difference for individuals and families affected by diabetes. We're proud of Beau for using his voice to raise awareness and encourage others as we celebrate being Stronger Than 1.

Join us this weekend for the Stronger Than 1 5K and Family Fun Mile and help support diabetes education and awareness in our community.

What a barnyard-sized celebration!

On Sunday, Owensboro Health Regional Hospital welcomed hundreds of NICU graduates and their families back for our annual NICU Reunion, themed Barnyard Bash. The event brought together former NICU patients, parents and the dedicated physicians, nurses and caregivers who were honored to be part of their earliest days.

Since opening 17 years ago, the Owensboro Health NICU has cared for nearly 4,500 families, and this special event offers an opportunity to celebrate every child who has grown beyond their NICU journey.

"It is incredible to see these families return because we get to see the impact our team has made, but it also reminds us of the impact these families have had on us," said Stephanie Tuell, BSN, RN, manager of nursing for the NICU. "No one plans to spend time in the NICU, but being a small part of their story is truly special. Seeing these children come back year after year and watching how they've grown creates a bond we'll always cherish."

Thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make this year's reunion another unforgettable celebration. 💙

A big congratulations to Nursing Cohort #33 for completing Owensboro Health Regional Hospital’s Nurse Residency Week!

We're committed to ensuring our newest nurses have the tools, mentorship and support they need to thrive. Our Nurse Residency Program helps new registered nurse graduates successfully transition into practice, preparing them to deliver exceptional care and compassionate service to patients across our region.

We're proud to celebrate this milestone and grateful to have these dedicated caregivers as part of the Owensboro Health family. Welcome, Cohort #33!

Since launching Virtual Nursing in 2024, Owensboro Health has supported more than 30,000 patient interactions and returned valuable nursing time to the bedside. In July alone, 337 hours were redirected to direct patient care, the equivalent of more than two full-time nurses.

Our Virtual Nursing Program features our Owensboro Health nurses who work on-site and are dedicated exclusively to virtual nursing, providing an extra layer of support for patients while helping bedside nurses focus on hands-on care.

By combining compassionate care with innovative technology, we're supporting our caregivers, enhancing the patient experience and improving the health of the communities we serve.
