📻💙 Celebrating National Radio Day with Our Friends at WBKR! 💙📻

Recently, we had the opportunity to celebrate National Radio Day in the best way possible—by spending the morning with some of our favorite people at WBKR!

Our participants and staff dropped in to visit Chad and M-Kat, get a behind-the-scenes look at life inside the radio station, and enjoy plenty of laughs along the way. But the fun didn't stop there! A few of our participants also had the chance to join SPARKY for their Pet of the Week segment, making the morning even more memorable. 🐾

We want to send a huge thank you to WBKR and SPARKY for always being so welcoming to the Opportunity Center family. Opportunities like these allow our participants to experience new things, meet incredible people, and make memories throughout our community.

Thank you for opening your doors, sharing your morning, and—most importantly—having so much fun with our clients and staff! We always enjoy spending time with our friends at WBKR and can't wait for our next visit. 💙

Every day at the Opportunity Center is filled with opportunities to learn, grow, connect, and thrive. But what exactly is Day Training—and who makes those opportunities possible?

Our Day Training program provides individuals with disabilities a supportive environment to build important life skills, develop relationships, explore new interests, participate in meaningful activities, and become more active members of our community. From learning daily living skills and participating in creative programming to enjoying community outings and discovering new experiences, every day brings an opportunity for growth.

At the heart of that programming are our incredible Direct Support Professionals.

DSPs do far more than supervise activities. They are teachers, mentors, advocates, encouragers, problem-solvers, and trusted sources of support. They work alongside the individuals we serve, helping them build confidence, pursue independence, navigate challenges, and experience the world around them.

Day Training creates the opportunities—but our DSPs help make those opportunities meaningful.

Their patience, creativity, compassion, and dedication are essential to everything we do at the Opportunity Center. They help turn everyday moments into learning experiences and ensure that the individuals we serve have the support they need to live fuller, more connected lives.

Simply put: our DSPs are the heart behind the hands-on work that brings our mission of inclusion to life. 💙

🎉💙 WHAT. A. MORNING! 💙🎉

Today was a HUGE day for the Opportunity Center of Owensboro!

Our crew was up bright and early this morning and headed to Rooster Booster, where we were honored to be recognized as the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce Member of the Month! And what better way to celebrate than by starting the morning with Pinocchio's Deli! 🧁🍪

Three of our incredible Culinary graduates spent the morning passing out muffins and cookies to a record-breaking Rooster Booster crowd, proudly representing the Opportunity Center and showing firsthand what happens when opportunity, training, and determination come together. We couldn't have been more proud of them!

But the celebrations didn't stop there...

👏 Andrew Payne was recognized as the August Chamber Ambassador of the Month! Andrew's commitment to our community, his work with the Chamber, and his dedication to helping individuals pursue meaningful employment make this recognition incredibly well deserved.

And if that wasn't enough exciting news for one morning...

🎓 Our very own Ashlee Berry was officially announced as a member of the Leadership Owensboro Class of 2027! We are so proud of Ashlee and can't wait to see the connections, knowledge, and opportunities this experience brings her—and ultimately, the Opportunity Center and the community we serve.

From being named Member of the Month, to celebrating our Culinary graduates, recognizing an outstanding Ambassador, and welcoming a new Leadership Owensboro class member...

Today was a reminder that BIG things are happening at the Opportunity Center. 💙

Congratulations to everyone who had a reason to celebrate this morning, and a huge thank you to the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce for continuing to champion local businesses, nonprofits, leaders, and organizations working to make our community stronger.

As we kick off Workforce Inclusion Month, the Opportunity Center of Owensboro is bringing together job seekers, employers, and community resources for a day focused on building connections, confidence, and opportunities.

We’re looking for local businesses and organizations to join us by reserving a space to:

🎤 Offer mock interviews and helpful feedback
💬 Share interview tips and workplace advice
👔 Help individuals learn more about professional attire and presentation
🤝 Answer questions and connect one-on-one with job seekers

🧶✨ Emily is at it again—and this time, she's making fashion! ✨🧶

If you've been following along, you may remember Emily and her incredible crochet creations, including her adorable Smurfette and nearly complete cast of Winnie the Pooh characters. 🧸💙

Well, she has officially taken her crochet skills to the next level—and we are absolutely blown away by what she's creating!

Yesterday, she completed this incredible crocheted shrug, adding a handmade piece to her very own closet. 👏🧶 And while we already know Emily has an eye for detail, this latest creation shows just how much dedication, patience, and skill she's put into perfecting her craft.

Crochet isn't just a creative outlet. It requires fine motor control, hand-eye coordination, concentration, pattern recognition, sequencing, and patience. Emily has been putting all of those skills to work—and the results speak for themselves!

We couldn't be more proud of her for continuing to challenge herself, try new projects, and turn her creativity into something she can actually wear and enjoy.

Emily, we think this one deserves a spot on the runway! 💁‍♀️🧶✨

🍕🎮 Pizza, Games & Plenty of Fun at GattiTown! 🎮🍕

Recently, one of our groups headed over to GattiTown in Evansville for an afternoon filled with pizza, games, and plenty of laughs!

From grabbing a slice with friends to trying their hand at the arcade games, our participants had the chance to enjoy a little friendly competition, socialize, and simply have fun together. Sometimes, the best outings are the ones where there's no big agenda—just good food, great company, and plenty of opportunities to make memories.

Community outings like this also provide valuable opportunities to practice social skills, decision-making, communication, and independence in a fun and natural environment.

The school day may end in the afternoon, but the learning, friendships, and fun are just getting started at the Opportunity Center!

Our new After School Program is designed to provide a safe, engaging, and supportive environment where students can continue building skills, complete homework, enjoy recreational activities, and connect with peers—all while giving working families peace of mind.

Daily Schedule
🕞 3:30 p.m. – Arrival & Afternoon Snack
🎨 3:45–4:15 p.m. – Structured Activities
📖 4:15 p.m. – Homework Assistance & Outdoor Activity (weather permitting)
🕠 5:30 p.m. – Program Ends

Whether it's homework help, hands-on activities, time outdoors, or simply a place to belong after school, our team is committed to helping each participant finish the day on a positive note.
