Instead of wellness: fabulousness LOL luxuriousness?
Instead of holistic: whole being, comprehensive
Instead of masseuse: bodyworker or licensed massage therapist
Instead of parlour: spa, studio, clinic, facility ANYTHING other than parlour
These are all super common buzz words and all of them have a degree of negative connotation to me.
Why did I switch from calling myself an LMT to a bodyworker? I'm done being reduced to being a massueuse in a parlour. *cringe* i also have an MMP for medical massage practioner and someone i hired to do a job actually felt comfortable enough to tell me they thought it had to do with medical ma*****na. Really? Because i look like i do drugs? No. I actually dont smoke, v**e, drink or take any kind of prescriptions. Back in the day i would be called straight edge. Not sure if that's still a movement in the world of clouds and pills but NO nothing I do involves ma*****na or even cbd since im so sensitive to anything concentrated. Seriously every new building we see going up we assume it's another w**d shop too. It's taken over! I pride myself in offering drug and alcohol free relaxation. There will never be a wine and chill event here at the Bank. Ever.
Ive gotten slightly used to being called a masseuse since most people don't use it to imply anything untoward. However, when you add parlour to it it's a double wammy of antiquated unethical implications. Does bodywork parlour come to mind? No, not really does it?
But we Always add that to massage. It's SUPER cool for an old timey tattoo shop or barber, but massage? It's different and is degrading to the professionals who work at the bodywork facility.
Ever been gaslit, ignored and downright abused by a company with the name wellness in it? I personally have! I take my work very seriously and do the best I can for E v e r y b o d y and I dont want to be lumped in with those profiting from a trendy name to make a three letter agency sound softer. Some of my near and dear have been life long injured by establishments who use the holistic terminology so it has became a word I dont personally use to describe anything I offer. Is it technically? Yes of course. I'm still going to vehemently avoid using it.
I have always done my own thing in life and will always be a bit unique in my approaches and i'd very much prefer to remain that way.
It's great to have options and choices. I always say there's a personality and environment to suit every body! There is!
Im creating a mini version of what I believe a spa to be. Where we offer prestigious self care investments geared to the Whole being in the most fabulous setting I can conjure up. A little magic, a lot of Faith and a Ton of hands on experience can culminate into a really beautiful thing. I always say I do massage so I can decorate! I just happen to be really good at both!! A high end relaxation destination awaits........you just wait!
P.s. no i dont do reiki. Reiki ≠ Bodywork . I use my intuition, knowledge, intention, and my own physical exertion to offer results based therapeutic services and that works just fine.
