1st infusion done out of 5. Right now it’s all about giving my body time to replenish while maintaining fitness and paying attention to symptoms. I put in a good amount of training over a long period so I’m hopeful and don’t think cramming in another huge weekend will help but will only deplete. It really all depends on what my blood work looks like in about 3 weeks. 4 weeks left! Getting close!
Walked today due to feeling a little more tired than usual. I think the change is happening! Leaves are just beginning to change!🍁

Know your body and pay attention when something feels off.
This picture was from last Saturday’s 50k which appears that I was having a great time😂 but in reality I was not. I was pushing through some extreme discomfort which I knew was not normal for me.
I kept thinking I was tired, I knew I wasn’t recovering well. Maybe it was stress, sleep, hormones but I knew something felt different.
Blood work showed that I’m anemic and severely iron deficient. I’m starting iron supplements and have an iron infusion scheduled so hopefully I can start feeling like myself again as iron levels improve.
This post isn’t about diagnosing yourself or assuming that every symptom means that there is something wrong but just a reminder to know what’s normal for you and not to automatically push through it or ignore it.
Pay attention and get checked out. Our bodies are so smart.

Not every training run goes as planned. Today I attempted to run the Tarc fall classic 50k and DNF’d. Had to call it just shy of 22 miles. Knee started hurting, no energy and fatigue despite getting in fueling and electrolytes but wasn’t able to turn it around.😞 Every mile felt way harder than it should have.
Definitely bummed but glad I didn’t go on just to finish. Now to figure out what was going on and to move forward from here.
Still a beautiful morning with perfect running weather.

Never, ever, EVER, did I think I would be training and attempting to run 100 miles. But here I am.
I was never athletic and I was never a person that believed in myself so getting this far feels a little crazy.
Heading into peak training and my brain is doing what it usually does. Thinking if I’ve done enough, having some hard runs and wondering how I’m suppose to run 100 miles, and thinking that I have no right attempting this. But I know that this is normal and part of it.
I never actually thought this but I’m pretty proud of myself. For all of those early mornings, late evenings, hot runs, wet runs, base building in snow, ice and in freezing temps, getting training in when life was (and still is) chaos, running when I didn’t want to and pushing through some of my darkest days.
I don’t know if I can run 100 miles but I’m going to give it my best. Right now I just need to keep going.

The physical activity guidelines for adults recommends getting 150 min of moderate intensity aerobic activity or 75 min of rigorous aerobic activity weekly. The guidelines for strength training is recommended at 2x per week. These are minimums. About 1 and 5 Americans meet the minimum for both combined.
The thing that matters is that you don’t have to meet the guidelines to benefit. Even starting with small amounts can improve health and reduce the risk of chronic conditions.
Start with walking for 10 min.
Strength training 1x per week.
Start from wherever you are and build from there.
EVERYTHING counts!!

6 miles with my sidekick. A little cooler this morning which made it feel amazing!
Sleep is still a challenge and is definitely having an impact on recovery. My body is tired but my mind refuses to stop. Working on it.
Next week is a build week. Continuing to chip away at the miles as October gets closer. These miles with Luna are my favorite!🖤

10 miles on the Midtstate trail this morning. The mountain laurel are starting to bloom, Luna enjoyed every water stop and I’m grateful that my foot held up for the whole hike!!😁
