Mindful Crafting: Taking Care of Your Mental Health
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of facilitating a Mindful Crafting workshop for the Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council.
We began by checking in with ourselves and naming how we were feeling in the moment. From there, we explored mindfulness, the mental health benefits of creative activity, and the importance of intentionally making space in our lives to slow down, be present, and engage in something simply because it brings us joy.
Then we created.
The room was filled with conversation, laughter, concentration, creativity, and connection as each participant transformed their piece into something uniquely their own.
Taking care of our mental health does not always happen in a therapist’s office. It can happen around a table with other people. It can happen while working with our hands. It can happen when we quiet the noise of everything demanding our attention and give ourselves permission to simply be present.
Yesterday, we made beautiful things but the real intention was making space for ourselves.
Mindful Crafting. Creativity with intention.
