Huge shout out to the Ashtabula County Board of Developmental Disabilities for hosting an amazing Resource & Technology Fair! It was a great turn out, and the vendors were all very helpful and friendly. MCC Therapies, LLC really got our name out there, so I am hoping to connect and contribute sooner rather than later. Thanks to everyone that came out 💜

If you have time, check it out. In a world for-profit, you HAVE to share when you find something free. Enjoy!

Some people go to the library for “a few books.”

My son's AUDHD brain goes in like: I will learn EVERYTHING about this topic… today.

It’s the AUDHD paradox:
- Info dumping because you love it
- Hyperfocus because it lights up your whole nervous system
- Frustration because you’ve out‑read the entire section
- Craving novelty but also wanting the same comfort‑topic energy

What’s your current hyperfixation or library‑haul obsession? I love hearing what other deep‑dive brains are exploring.

Have you heard about Keith’s Law and Ohio’s Disability Verification Program?
A lot of families haven’t — and it’s something every parent or caregiver of a neurodivergent child, teen, or adult should know about.

Keith’s Law was signed in October 2025 and expands Ohio’s Communication Disability Law. The goal is simple:
👉 Help first responders understand when someone in a vehicle has a disability that may affect communication, processing, or behavior.

Here’s what that actually means in real life:

✔ You can voluntarily add a disability to a secure statewide database
Under Ohio Revised Code 3304.23, families can submit a verification form to add (or remove) a person or license plate from the disability database.

This includes disabilities such as:
• autism
• intellectual disabilities
• speech/language impairments
• hearing or vision impairments
• traumatic brain injury
• serious emotional disturbance
• orthopedic impairments
• specific learning disabilities (including dyslexia)
• mental health conditions that affect communication or interaction

✔ This information is NOT public
R.C. 5502.08 makes it clear:
The disability database is confidential and not a public record.

✔ It connects directly to law enforcement through LEADS
If a person with a disability is driving — or regularly rides in a vehicle — officers can be notified before they approach the car that someone inside may have difficulty communicating, processing instructions, or responding quickly.

This helps reduce misunderstandings, stress, and potentially unsafe interactions.

✔ It’s voluntary and meant to protect, not label
This program exists to give first responders context so they can approach with patience, awareness, and the right communication strategies.

For many neurodivergent individuals, that awareness can make a huge difference.

This important legislation, known as Keith's Law, builds upon Communication Disability Law, enabling first responders to have information shared by people with disabilities when responding to countywide 9-1-1 calls.

Today I want to extend a heartfelt thank‑you to our local County Boards of Developmental Disabilities — Ashtabula, Lake, Geauga — for standing with families during the HB 795 discussions.

Your advocacy, your testimony, and your willingness to speak openly about the real‑world impact of removing parents as paid caregivers made a difference. Families felt seen. Providers felt supported. And most importantly, individuals with developmental disabilities had strong voices in their corner.

In a system already stretched thin, your leadership matters. Thank you for showing up, for listening to families, and for using your platform to push for solutions that protect safety, stability, and dignity.

Our community is stronger because of you.

Some days our kids’ nervous systems are in “go mode,” and other days they’re in “nope mode.” Neither is misbehavior. Neither is a character flaw. Both are communication.

If your child is struggling today, meet them where they are. Regulation first, everything else second.

A message for my Saint John School and Spectrum Academy families in Ashtabula:

If your child has an IEP, the JPSN Scholarship can open the door to additional occupational therapy services outside the school day. Many families don’t realize they can apply even while enrolled in their current private school. MCC Therapies LLC is currently supporting families as they prepare for JPSN enrollment and helping them understand what OT services can look like through the scholarship. If you’d like help navigating the process, I’m here for you.
