What does the immune system have to do with the brain? 🧠
That’s part of what makes Selank such an interesting peptide to study.

Originally developed from tuftsin, a naturally occurring peptide involved in immune function, Selank has also been researched for its interaction with the GABA system, one of the brain’s major inhibitory pathways.

That connection is why Selank has entered conversations around stress, anxiety, and cognition.

The research is still evolving, human data is limited, and Selank is not FDA-approved in the U.S. But from a research perspective, the connection between immune signaling, GABA, and the brain is fascinating.

Another lesson in why peptides are so interesting. 🧬
Follow along for the next Peptides 101 lesson.

Semax is one of those peptides that has generated a lot of interest in the brain-health and longevity space. 🧠

Originally developed in Russia, Semax has been studied in relation to neurological signaling and pathways involving BDNF, a protein that plays an important role in neuroplasticity.

Think of neuroplasticity as your brain’s ability to adapt, learn, and form new connections. That’s what makes the research around Semax particularly interesting.

Of course, there’s a big difference between an interesting biological pathway and a proven clinical benefit. Human research is still evolving, and the claims you see online can go far beyond the actual evidence.

Still, if you’re following the emerging science around peptides and brain health, Semax is definitely one to know.

Stay tuned for the next session of Peptides 101 🧬

Your cell membranes are doing a lot more than simply holding your cells together. 🧬

Phosphatidylcholine, or PC, is a naturally occurring phospholipid that plays an important structural role in cell membranes and is found in high concentrations in tissues like the brain and liver.

That’s part of what makes PC IV therapy such an interesting area of research in functional and integrative medicine. But like any therapy, it should be considered in the context of your individual health, not simply because it’s trending.

Curious whether PC IV therapy could fit into your personalized wellness plan? Send us a message or visit the link in our bio to learn more. ✨

A new study is raising questions about glucosamine and brain health. 👀

Researchers found an association between glucosamine use and progression from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s disease. But importantly, this study does not prove that glucosamine causes Alzheimer’s.

What it does highlight is something we talk about often in functional medicine: supplements aren’t automatically safe or appropriate just because they’re available over the counter.

The right supplement depends on your individual history, labs, medications, goals, and overall health.

One study shouldn’t cause panic, but it should encourage us to ask better questions about what we’re putting into our bodies. 🧠

Science is nuanced. Your supplement plan should be, too.

Think your magnesium levels are normal because your blood work says so? 👀

The problem is that standard serum magnesium only shows what’s circulating in your blood, while the majority of your body’s magnesium is stored in your cells, bones, and tissues.

That’s why looking at RBC magnesium can provide a deeper look at your magnesium status over time.

Magnesium plays a role in hundreds of processes in the body, including muscle function, nervous system health, energy production, and more.

When it comes to nutrients, the right test can tell a much bigger story than a standard lab value alone. 🧬

Next up I’ll be breaking down the different types of magnesium and which ones may be best for different needs. ✨ Stay tuned…

Many women are afraid of hormones because they’ve been told: “Hormones increase your risk of breast cancer.” But the conversation is much more complex than that.

Testosterone is not just a “male hormone.” Women naturally produce it too, and it plays important roles in muscle, bone health, brain function, mood, metabolism, and libido.

Emerging research is continuing to explore the relationship between testosterone, estrogen, and breast health. While more studies are needed, it challenges the idea that all hormones should be viewed through a lens of fear.

The goal isn’t giving every woman hormones. It’s understanding what your body needs based on your symptoms, labs, history, and individual risk factors.

Hormone care should be personalized, not one-size-fits-all. 🌿

Most hormone panels only measure one or two forms of estrogen. But that's only part of the picture.

Your body doesn't just make estrogen. It also has to metabolize it, and how it breaks estrogen down can influence everything from estrogen dominance to fibroids, endometriosis, and overall hormone balance.

A comprehensive hormone evaluation looks beyond a single number to better understand the pathways your body is using and where additional support may be beneficial.

When it comes to hormones, the goal isn't just more testing. It's the right testing. 🌿

When I first heard about Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE), my first thought was, I need to do my homework.

What I found was that TPE isn't new. It's been used in hospitals for decades as an established medical therapy for certain autoimmune, neurological, and blood disorders.

Today, it's also being used in functional medicine as part of a comprehensive approach for select patients with complex, chronic conditions by helping reduce circulating inflammatory proteins and other plasma-bound substances.

TPE might not be for everyone, but for the right candidate, it can be an important part of a personalized treatment plan.

Curious if TPE might be right for you? Comment TPE below or send us a message. 💙
