78% of Alaska teens don’t drink.

While underage drinking is a serious concern in Alaska, it’s important to know that most Alaska teens choose not to drink. In fact, according to the 2013 Alaska Youth Risk Behavioral Survey, 78% of Alaska teens don’t drink. The Alaska Wellness Coalition launched the campaign to support a statewide Positive Community Norms (PCN) effort to reduce underage alcohol use. It aims to prevent and reduce d

rinking among teens; reduce the perception of drinking prevalence among teens; and build hope that communities can work together to reduce risk and create positive change.

Here's a fun opportunity to help others stay well!
Don’t forget the Unsah Jan Program at Cook Inlet Tribal Council is looking for families and elders for a commercial!

It’s easy!

Simply, fill out a media release form (so it can be aired on TV!) and record an activity or two with your family that you enjoy doing- berry picking, ice fishing, cooking, drying fish… how about fry bread? (Yum!).

If you are an elder, record a video of you saying “stay well” in your language! But don’t forget to let CITC know what community you’re from!

That’s it! Then simply email Ashley Anderson, or text your video, and ask for a media release! [email protected] or 509-994-1096.

All videos will be submitted NO LATER THAN APRIL 1!

Spirit of Youth knows that there are good things happening in our state and young people are often at the heart of them. For 23 years Spirit of Youth has empowered Alaska’s youth through statewide, media-based youth recognition programs.

Of the nominees, eight youth or youth groups and eight runners-up are selected to receive Spirit of Youth Awards including a scholarship. All Alaskan youth ages 12-19 are eligible.

The deadline to nominate youth has been extended to February 5, 2021.
