Sleep Problems During Pregnancy May Influence Postpartum Depression Risk.

Sleep-disordered breathing includes conditions that repeatedly reduce airflow or briefly stop breathing during sleep, the most common of which is obstructive sleep apnea. In a study involving over 5,000 expectant mothers, researchers found that greater sleep-disordered breathing during the second trimester was associated with an elevated risk of postpartum depression.

Heart Failure Can Be an Early Complication of Type 2 Diabetes.

Heart failure occurs when the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body's needs, leading to fatigue, shortness of breath, fluid buildup, and reduced ability to perform everyday activities. Among nearly 20,000 adults with newly diagnosed diabetes, approximately 1 in 20 people with type 2 diabetes developed heart failure within five years. These findings suggest cardiovascular risk assessment should begin early after diabetes is diagnosed.
