To every person who has sat beside a loved one in pain and felt helpless, you are not alone. And your experience matters.

Caregivers are the backbone of palliative care around the world. They manage pain, provide comfort, and give everything they have, often without training, without support, and without anyone asking how they are doing. This World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, we want to hear from you. 💬

Share your story in the comments. Tell us what pain management in palliative care has meant for your family. Your voice is part of this campaign.

Today is World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2026.

This year, we are talking about something that touches every family, every community, and every corner of the world: pain management. Pain relief is not optional. It is not a luxury. It is the most basic promise of care, and for too many people around the world, that promise is still broken.

Over 20 million people die every year in unnecessary pain. Not because we lack the medicines. Not because we lack the knowledge. But because systems, policies, and stigma continue to stand between patients and the relief they deserve.

On this day, we stand together: patients, families, caregivers, health workers, advocates, and policymakers to say: enough.

Join us. Share your story. Raise your voice. And help us build a world where no one dies in preventable pain.

Caregivers deserve to be cared for, too.

Justice Lewis had the pleasure of attending the Annual Panama City Caregiver Appreciation Event, a special day dedicated to recognizing the people who give so much of themselves to care for others. In 2022, former Mayor Greg Brudnicki proclaimed October 2 as Caregiver Appreciation Day in Panama City, Florida, helping shine a light on the important role caregivers play in our community.

From fun activities and moments of relaxation to encouraging words and meaningful connections, the event created space for caregivers to pause, recharge, and enjoy time for themselves.

We’re grateful for every caregiver and all they do. Here’s to making sure they feel seen, appreciated, and supported.

Our Volunteer Outreach and Music Therapy teams recently joined family and friends to celebrate one of our Gadsden County patients as she turned 105 years old! 💚

With cake, flowers, balloons, gifts and music, the afternoon was a wonderful celebration of an incredible milestone. She enjoyed some of her favorite songs, shared stories with loved ones and spent the day surrounded by people who mean so much to her.

Moments like this reflect what hospice care is all about: caring for the whole person and helping patients and families make meaningful memories together.

Happy 105th birthday! We’re grateful to have been part of such a special day.

Big Bend Hospice has received a four-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), placing us among Florida’s highest-rated hospice providers.

This recognition reflects what matters most: the voices and experiences of the families we serve. For more than 40 years, our team has been honored to provide compassionate care, support, dignity, and comfort to patients and their loved ones.

Four stars are an honor. The trust of our families is the greatest recognition of all.

Advocating for the Future of Hospice Care

Members of the Big Bend Hospice Executive Leadership Team recently represented our organization at the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI) Conference and Hill Day in Washington, D.C.

Our team, Amanda Gustafson, Chief Operating Officer & Vice President; Dr. Norman Pasley, Chief Nursing Officer; and Nicole Holm, Chief Compliance Officer, joined hospice leaders from across the country to advocate for policies that help protect and strengthen access to hospice care for patients and families.

During Hill Day, our leaders met with the teams of Congressman Aaron Bean and Congressman Neal Dunn, M.D., and with Senator Rick Scott to discuss the importance of the hospice benefit and advocate for continued access to compassionate, high-quality end-of-life care.

We are proud of our Executive Leadership Team for bringing the voice of Big Bend Hospice and the patients and families we serve to Capitol Hill and for helping ensure the importance of hospice care remains part of the national conversation.

Big Bend Hospice, providing compassionate care, one family at a time.
