Meet our panelist, Cristina Hernandez (ella/she/her)! 🧡

Cristina brings years of education, birth work, public health experience, and community service to the table. A UNLV graduate with degrees in Psychology and Public Health and a graduate certificate in Women’s Studies, Cristina has also been serving families as a doula since 2017.

As someone deeply rooted in the Las Vegas community, her perspective is especially meaningful as we explore what it takes to create systems of support where mothers, babies, and entire families can thrive.

Join Cristina for “We All We Got: Building a Village That Thrives” during the 11th Annual Black Breastfeeding Week Las Vegas Milk Depot!

For 11 YEARS, dedicated IBCLCs and community advocates in Southern Nevada have been doing the work. 🍼💛

They have collected donated human milk, educated families, recruited donors, hosted milk depots, and helped make sure some of our most vulnerable babies (especially babies in the NICU) have access to the nutrition they need.

Eleven years.

And yet, Nevada still does not have a donor human milk bank of our own.

That means milk donated by Nevada families can leave our state, travel to California to be screened, processed and pasteurized, and then make its way back to Nevada to serve our babies.

Our IBCLCs have built the infrastructure.
Our families have donated.
Our community has shown up.

Now we need policy to catch up.

A milk depot is powerful community work. But after 11 years, we should be talking about what it takes to establish a Nevada milk bank — one that can serve Nevada families, Nevada hospitals and Nevada NICUs right here at home.

As we prepare to celebrate another Black Breastfeeding Week in Las Vegas, we are celebrating the incredible IBCLCs who have carried this work year after year — while also advocating for the investment and legislation needed to take it to the next level.

Because Nevada babies deserve Nevada infrastructure. 🖤

Thank you to the IBCLCs, milk donors, advocates and community partners who have kept this work going for more than a decade.

11 years of community action. Now it’s time for systemic action.

Donated breast milk currently travels to California for processing before returning to Nevada babies
