Next time you’re overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck in your head… go for a walk.

Walking creates bilateral stimulation; a left-right rhythmic pattern that activates both hemispheres of the brain alternately. This is the same mechanism used in EMDR therapy, one of the most effective trauma treatments we have. Your body figured it out long before we had a name for it.

That rhythm signals safety to your nervous system. It helps process stored stress, unresolved tension, and emotional weight that gets stuck in the body when we’re sedentary and overwhelmed.

This is exactly what Brainshaping Academy is built on — the understanding that your mental health doesn’t start in your mind. It starts in your body. Your gut, your mitochondria, your immune system, your nervous system. All of it shapes how you think, feel, and function every single day.

Brainshaping Academy shows you the root cause biology behind anxiety, low mood, and brain fog — and gives you a complete plan to address it. Drop a YES below, and I’ll DM you a link to join the waitlist. 🧠

This Mother’s Day, let’s talk mitochondria. 🧬

I’ve delivered over 500 babies, and if there’s one thing I know — it’s that the mothers in that room are operating at the absolute limit of human strength. And that doesn’t stop when you leave the hospital. Motherhood asks that of you every single day.

That strength is biological. Every cell in your body relies on mitochondria to produce ATP—your body’s actual energy currency, the fuel that powers your brain, muscles, heart, and hormones

When your mitochondria are healthy, you think clearly, show up fully, and handle stress with ease. But when they’re damaged (from processed foods, environmental toxins, poor sleep, or chronic stress) everything suffers.

Fatigue sets in. Mood dips. Patience runs thin.

🔋 Here’s how to protect your cellular power plants:

-Eat nutrient-dense, polyphenol-rich foods (like greens, berries, olive oil)
-Cut sugar and ultra-processed foods that clog mitochondrial function
-Get quality sleep to promote mitochondrial repair (I know this one is tough, mama — but even small upgrades matter: a consistent bedtime, a cool dark room, magnesium before bed, and screens off an hour early can meaningfully shift your cellular recovery overnight)
-Exercise (especially resistance and interval training) to stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis
-Manage stress with breathwork, connection, and time in nature

Motherhood demands energy. Real, biological energy.

So this Mother’s Day, fuel the system that fuels YOU.

Did you know Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) is one of the world's oldest living tree species?1 In fact, fossils of early Ginkgo trees date back over 200 million years, around the time of the dinosaurs 🦖

Active compounds in the herb’s distinctive leaves bestow Gingko with resilience to the survive the centuries. These ancient properties are highly relevant for modern clinical practice.

As a neuroprotective, nootropic, antioxidant and circulatory stimulant, many consider Ginkgo a tonic for healthy ageing. Key clinical uses include supporting memory, learning and cognition, and promoting healthy circulation. The herb also helps symptoms caused by decreased blood flow to the brain and periphery such as cognitive impairment, ischemia, vertigo, tinnitus and headaches.

Protecting against cognitive decline, Gingko (240 mg/d for 12 weeks) has been shown to improve attention, memory and physical health in those with mild cognitive impairment.2 Patients with mild dementia are likely to benefit from longer-term use (>24 weeks).3

Most people are not getting enough omega-3s to support brain health.

There is a meaningful difference between minimal intake and optimal intake.

In my view, the target should be higher than what is commonly recommended:

➡️ Total omega-3 intake: 1,500–2,000 mg of EPA + DHA daily

➡️ DHA specifically: at least 800–1,000 mg per day

DHA plays a central role in brain structure and function, which is why I emphasize it specifically.

We often think of the body first.
But everything is directed by the brain.

🧠 The brain is command center
Every system, every function starts here.

⚡ Energy, movement, decisions
All coordinated through the nervous system.

🔁 The body follows the brain
When brain function declines, everything else is affected.

🔥 Protecting the brain is foundational
Lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, and environment all play a role.

📊 Performance starts at the top
Physical health reflects neurological health.

Take care of the brain,
and the rest of the body follows.

Women with Alzheimer’s have been found to show a distinct pattern: lower omega-3 levels and higher saturated fats.

This points to an imbalance in lipid metabolism that may influence brain health.

Supporting adequate omega-3 intake through diet or supplementation may be an important strategy for maintaining cognitive function over time.

Look back at my post from April 20 for my exact recommendation on omega-3 dosage.
