I’m 53. Save this if you have SKIN.

Because I’ve done A LOT of things wrong—and I’m not afraid to admit it.

☀️ Baby oil at the lake? Absolutely.
☀️ Tanning bed membership? Of course.
☀️ Picked my face like it was my job? Still accepting applications.

Fortunately, my nursing career gave me some unique access to a little Botox starting in my early 30s. Did I really understand what it was? Nope. Could I have afforded regular treatments back then? Also nope.

I was also a big Arbonne girl in the early 2000s, and if it taught me anything, it was that consistency and routine matter.

And here’s the part where I’m supposed to tell you that now, as an aesthetic nurse practitioner, I do everything perfectly.

I don’t.

I still pick my face.
I still feel skinnier with a tan. 😬
I still stop my retinol when I KNOW I need to push through the red, flaky stage.

I’m a realist.

Good skin isn’t about perfection. It’s about understanding what actually matters, being consistent most of the time, protecting the skin you have now—and making intentional choices moving forward.

No shame. No lies. No pretending I’ve been wearing SPF since 1985.

Trending with my 28-year-old daughter Laurel … because apparently ridiculous questions are the best way to demonstrate facial anatomy. 😂

But here’s the real point: beauty and youth need very little altering.

Those expressions we make all day long eventually leave their mark. Neurotoxin, when used thoughtfully, can soften repetitive movement and help prevent those dynamic lines from becoming static lines at rest.

As a mom AND Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner, I’m very aware of the slippery slope that can exist in aesthetics—especially for young women. More is not better. Different is not the goal.

Remembering Gina🤍🪽

I met Gina nearly 25 years ago, when I was her preceptor on labor and delivery at Presbyterian St. Luke’s. She was smart, logical, and a lot less emotional than me — lol.

Our paths crossed again after we both earned our master’s degrees in nursing and went on to build our own aesthetics practices. Somewhere in that journey, the roles reversed — Gina became my mentor, and it was she who encouraged me to get involved with Aesthetic Medical Educators Training opening a door I might not have walked through without her push.

Gina never dwelled on her situation. I’d joke with her that if it were me, I’d need a few more casseroles delivered to my house. That was never Gina. She focused on living, never stopped planning for the future, and never stopped fighting for answers or seeking out any treatment that might buy her more time. I think we all wonder, quietly, what we’d do in her position — and she showed us. I will always respect what she was willing to give, while bravely and quietly fighting her own battle.

Gina shared her knowledge in the aesthetics industry with a rare generosity — no gatekeeping, no holding back, just an honest desire to see other people succeed. It’s the thing I valued most about her.

Her fight has ended, but the legacy of everything she gave — to me, and to so many others in this field — hasn’t.❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Turns out my 5-year plan… didn’t actually have a plan. 😂

I never set out to leave a job I truly loved. But almost five years into building Intentional, I’ve realized growth sometimes means choosing where your time — and your heart — are needed most.

So here’s to more focus, a little more balance (🤞), and making sure the patients who trust us never get any less of me. 🤍

Closing one chapter. Going all in on the next.
