March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when screening is done regularly.
Many people don’t realize that screening now begins at age 45 for average-risk adults and earlier for those with family history or genetic conditions, such as Lynch syndrome.
Lynch syndrome is the most common inherited colorectal cancer syndrome and can also increase the risk for endometrial and other cancers.
Screening can help detect problems early, often before cancer develops.
Talk with your provider if you experience:
• Blood in the stool
• Changes in bowel habits
• Ongoing abdominal pain
• Unexplained weight loss
At Women’s Health of Parkersburg, we are committed to helping patients stay informed and proactive about their health. If you have questions about colorectal cancer screening or need help getting started, we’re here to guide you.
