Great news, Parkland-Spanaway! Velvet's Big Easy is now a Blue Zones Approved Restaurant! 🎉

For years, Velvet's BigEasy has been bringing the flavor and hospitality of New Orleans to Pierce County with a menu inspired by Cajun and Creole recipes.

Throughout the summer, Ms. Brenda and her team got creative and developed new, healthy recipes to add to their menu! After a few weeks of hard work alongside our local Blue Zones team, we're proud to announce that Velvet's Big Easy is officially a Blue Zones Approved restaurant!

We will be hosting a celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 10th and want you to join us! During this event, she will be revealing her new menu items that blend healthy ingredients with Southern comfort.

Although we didn't reach 1,000 pledges by August 31st, we DID surpass all of our Engagement metrics to keep us on track for to become a Blue Zones Certified Community! 🎉

So now what, you ask? The road to 1,000 Pledges continues!

Our project here in Parkland-Spanaway will come to an end soon and we have until December 31st to have at least 300 more people commit to a healthier tomorrow!

We're partnering up with Akasha to offer free Mat Pilates classes in Spanaway 🤝

Once a month through the end of the year, Jennifer from Akasha Aerial Arts will host a free 45-min class that is open to all experience levels! This is a great opportunity to visit her award-winning facility and learn about all of the other movement classes she offers as well! 🤸‍♀️

Classes will be hosted on Monday evenings at 6pm. Make sure you sign-up in advance to secure your spot and bring your own yoga / exercise mat!

We're teaming up with Safe Streets Campaign & Pierce County Parks to host a community clean-up in Parkland, WA!

On Saturday, September 19th, we will be bringing the community together to host a community clean-up alongisde Safe Streets Campaign, Pierce County Parks, and Parkland residents.

Volunteers will meet at Pacific Lutheran University - Hauge Room 101 at 9:30am and will walk around the neighborhood to clean-up debris and litter.

Great news! Our Gardening Moai hosted by Home of Plant Nurse Jennie - ™️ and Trinity Lutheran Parkland will continue through the Fall season! 🍁

Every Wednesday evening, members from our Gardening Moai have been meeting up and tending to the community garden at Trinity Lutheran Church in Parkland! Through the summer, they harvested 15+ pounds of fresh produce from the 5 garden beds they brought back to life this Spring!

This group is open to anybody who is interested in gardening and looking for ways to give back in an impactful way. No previous experience necessary as you'll be able to learn alongside Jennie from Home of Plant Nurse Jennie - ™️! 🌱
