Living Sublimely Well

Living Sublimely Well Integrating holistic modalities to help you tap into the joys of life. That's Living Sublimely Well. What was I trying to do that humid morning?

Founded by Elizabeth Scala MSN/MBA, RN, RYT200 a holistic nurse, registered yoga instructor, reiki master, and plant grower

The Backstory...
At 6:38 AM, I flew over the handlebars and crashed to the ground, my bike pinning me under it. Too many things to name! Most of my career I was a non-stop, can’t sit still, mover and shaker. A successful nurse researcher, living the dream, and then…

BAM! Everything changed. I fractured my elbow, required surgery, and developed complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). It took me close to six months to realize… there’s more to life than running the hamster wheel. With time & space for healing, I found truth in the saying, “Everything happens for a reason.”

I've left my nursing career for a healthier, happier life at Living Sublimely Well. I teach gentle yoga and qigong, providing healing modalities to the community. As a certified holistic nurse, yoga instructor, and plant grower, I help people stay accountable to the joys of living a healthy, happy life. Feel free to reach out. My heart

This week in our first class of the season, we’ve been reflecting on feeling grounded, connected, and stable.

Is this guy all of that all the time? (Any of the time 🙃)

That’s a BIG he!! NO 😂

However, providing him with a joyful experience, seeing his ridiculously adorable face, and knowing he trusts in me- yup. I’d give Buster the 100% security blanket. 💜

What about you? Who lights you up? Brings a smile to your face..

GROUNDING

In our autumn yoga session, we’re adventuring through the seven chakras (aka, energy centers in the body).

The first is the root, located at the base of the spine. It’s all about feeling connected, grounded, secure, and stable.

There are certain yoga poses that energize the root chakra. Some are mountain, childs, dragonfly, butterfly, locust, bridge, forward folds, tree, and warrior I/II.

Which one makes you feel the most grounded? Any of these or any others that make you feel steady and stable??

For me, it’s wide legged forward folds. When you intentionally pull the tail towards the sky, let the head/shoulders hang heavy, and firmly plant the feet— ahhh…. So pleasantly grounding 💜

Which is it for you?

Where do you feel safest? When do you feel most connected? With whom do you feel most uncomfortable?

Yoga is often focused on flexibility, specifically spine health. An ancient yogi philosopher said, “We are as youthful as the spine is flexible.”

The spine is not just a physical part of the body, but has an energetic element as well. The chakras, subtle energy centers of the body, are found up and down the spine.

The first is located at the root- the base of the spine. It is the center of stability, safety, and security.

A healthy root chakra means you’re grounded, connected, and sure. You’re supported and feel safe.

So…

Where do you feel safest? When do you feel most connected? With whom do you feel most uncomfortable?

Got another custom order for flower arrangements. The client wanted pinks and reds with a leaning towards fall. I hope she likes it!!

Gosh, I know one person who’s going to be very sad in several weeks when flower season is over 🙋‍♀️ 😭

Who’s gonna miss the cut flowers from the gardens as much as I will??

As we enter the -ber months, keep me in mind for all your walnut needs.

With autumn and holiday season approaching, it’s time to get back into the kitchen.

Walnuts go well with baking (e.g., breads, brownies, cookies). They’re yummy with cooking (e.g., stir fries, salads, side dishes). And they’re one of the easiest, healthiest, yummiest snacks- just grab and go!

We’ve collected, processed, cracked, and packaged black walnuts from our trees and we’re happy to share them with you!

Visit https://elizabethscala.com/walnuts/ to order yours today!

To be honest- August was (is always) a challenging month for me.

The absolute WORST weather feature for me is humidity. I can work in light rain, walk in frigid weather, and even rake leaves when it’s windy (🙃).

I just can’t do humidity, and now the more recent concept (at least for me) of dew point.

I’m sick of being indoors. Miss being outside. Crave nature.

Pause for reflection..

I’m not complaining (these are definitely privileged problems). Not even venting. I’m just being mindful.

Not every month is our favorite. Not every day is happy. Not every moment is perfect. And that’s okay.

It’s good to be honest with how you feel. Be aware of it. Let it be. Allow it. Then let it go and move forward.

That’s what I’m doing tonight. Embracing the good that was in August, releasing the bad, and being excited about tomorrow.

Annnnddddd… I’ve realized August is my least favorite month, and now we’re moving towards two of my favorites! September and October are like my bests!!!!! 🍂

Balance isn’t about staying perfectly still.

The wobble is part of the practice.

Every time you lose your balance and find your way back, your body is learning, adapting, and getting stronger.

So don’t be frustrated when you wobble.

That’s the work.
That’s the practice. 🌿
