I have been receiving ‘a poem a day in the month of may’ from and the first day was on sustainability.
Yesterday I took some time to create a meta drawing with this intention and the above drawing is what emerged. First, a large seed shape reminding me of a striped sunflower seed. Then two more standing on either of its sides, reminding me of the power of three.
Then a field emerged behind these beauties, a landscape in sight if you are sitting on the ground amidst the three large seeds, which now told me they were corn stalk seeds. A field of seeds asked to be drawn under a large sun, stretching out beyond. Finally, a small moon on the left, and another smaller sun on the right hand corner. It told me, “Paint me in greens and yellows.” So I did.
Here is the poem that I wrote after I drew and painted:
Sustainability is a sacred seed
The growing of plants and corn
Sustenance for our earthly bodies
And a giving back to the source of this
Sustenance.
Sustainability is a
Deepening of the
Roots underground
The rows and rows of fields of plenty
Able to feed all who are hungry.
Sustainability is a cycle of
Growth, death, rebirth
The generations before and the
Generations after us
Who will be the recipients of our
Intentions of sustainability
To sustain
To give sustenance to all.
Because until all are fed
There will always be someone who is hungry.
May we all be fed by the
Rays of sunshine
The groves of corn and beans and fruits and veggies
And may we bless and feel blessed by this
Amazing circle of life.
