Today is Independence Day, but to be completely honest, I’m not feeling all that celebratory. Lately, social media has become a place where I find out about the passing of old friends—people my age, or even younger. It’s a sobering reminder of mortality, and it hit me hard: My father passed at 59, but his job was done. I’m 56, my kids are young, and my job is not done.
