The Harmon Killebrew Miracle Field is a non-profit organization that was the dream of Payette native and Baseball Hall of Famer, Harmon Killebrew. Harmon and his wife Nita, have been instrumental in establishing several Miracle League fields throughout the U.S. But, one of Harmon’s last wishes was that there be a Miracle League Field built in his hometown, Payette, Idaho. From that wish; local gov
ernment, park entities, and the school district have come together to provide land at McCain Middle School in Payette for this project to become a reality. We opened the Miracle Field in April 2016 and had full playing seasons every year until 2020, due to the pandemic. History of Miracle League:
Miracle League baseball began in Georgia in 1998, when the Rockdale Youth Baseball Association decided to invite children with disabilities to play baseball on a typical baseball field at the youth baseball complex. That first season, on a grass and dirt field, 140 players came out to play baseball and the Miracle began! The National Miracle League Organization grew from this beginning, with the goal to offer the experience to every city in the country so that children, young adults and adults with special needs around the globe will have the opportunity to play baseball. By the second season, a new type of field was developed just for the Miracle League athletes. It is a custom-designed field with a cushioned, rubberized surface to help prevent injuries and to facilitate the use of wheelchairs and walkers, and the special needs of the amazing Players who rush out on it each week. The Miracle League believes that “Every Child Deserves a Chance to Play Baseball”. There are currently 250+ Miracle League organizations in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada serving over 200,000 children and young adults with disabilities.
