A client said this to me last week:
“I haven’t weighed myself in eleven days and I don’t feel like I’m losing my mind about it.”
She’s 51. Two years ago, she weighed herself every morning and let the number ruin or rescue her day depending on what it said
The work we did together wasn’t about the scale. It was about taking the scale out of the driver’s seat.
Here’s what we replaced it with:
A protein floor she hits every day
A bedtime that holds because tonight’s sleep is what counts for tomorrow
A weekend plan so Sunday night doesn’t blow up Monday morning

I’m 57. I ran a gym for years. I’ve coached hundreds of women and men through the part of life where the body stops listening to the rules.
Around year nine of coaching, I noticed the same pattern.
Smart, capable people walking into consults armed with information. None of them getting results.
The problem was never information. The problem was that nobody had built a structure around the information.
Knowing what to eat and actually eating it at 6:42pm on a Tuesday after a long day are two completely different sports.

The undereating trap is the most common thing I see in women over 40.
You cut calories. The scale doesn’t move. You cut more. It still doesn’t move. So you decide you’re broken.
You’re not broken. Your body is in defense mode.
When the deficit goes on too long, the body downshifts thyroid output and pushes cortisol up. Sleep gets worse.
Recovery slows. Hunger signals stop telling the truth.
Most women I work with need to eat more for 8 to 12 weeks before the body will let go of anything.
Not what diet culture told you. But it’s what works.
