Okame Mask π€ Painting Update Coming In The Future π¨
The Okame mask, also known as the Otafuku mask, is a traditional Japanese folk and theater mask depicting a jovial, round-faced woman with a wide smile and rosy cheeks. It symbolizes good fortune, happiness, and longevity, with "Otafuku" translating to "Much Good Fortune" and "Okame" referring to the tortoise, an ancient symbol of longevity.
Often paired with the Hyottoko mask (a comical male figure), the Okame character is associated with the Goddess of Mirth and is believed to bring prosperity and joy to those who wear or display her. While historically used in Noh and Kyogen theater performances, these masks are now popular decorative items, tattoos, and lucky charms in Japanese culture.Β
