Hey Ya’ll it’s summer and it’s extremely hot! The first instinct for many families is to head to the pool to cool off and enjoy being around bodies of water.

I myself am a new swimmer and although I have taken a lot of lessons over the last two years, I am aware that I am not an experienced swimmer. I’m a newbie at it and should be watched by the life guards, if possible! The same is true for many of you and your kiddos while in water. So with that said enjoy the water, but pay attention to the people around you and how they are handling being in the water. In this spirit listed below are useful

Dorian Duckworth is 30 years old and a Mississippi native. This summer he is opening the Jacksonian Media Institute, a community school offering programmes across a range of disciplines that most accessible education simply does not cover together in one place.
Maternal Health. Agriculture. Nonprofit Capacity Building. Braiding and Styling. Filmmaking. Makeup Artistry. Lash Application. Urban Construction.
Read that list again. Because the breadth of it is not accidental. It is the point. Dorian looked at his community and asked what does this community actually need to learn, to earn, and to build. And then he built the institution that answers that question across health, creative arts, skilled trades, and civic infrastructure at the same time.
The Jacksonian Media Institute is not a single-track programme. It is a deliberate attempt to meet a community where it actually is across multiple fields, with the understanding that people need pathways not just programmes.
This is community investment in its most practical and most honest form. Not a grant proposal. Not a conversation about what needs to happen. A building, a curriculum, and an opening date.
Dorian Duckworth found the space. He built what was needed. He is opening the doors this summer.

Awesomeness…

Black excellence on full display! Coming from a grassroots community arts program that initially practiced in local recreation center basements on linoleum floors, these young athletes spent years refining their technique. Their historic routine beautifully incorporated classical pointe work with fluid, soulful contemporary movements, completely mesmerizing the international judging panel. Last night, they became the first independent American school to secure the grand trophy in the competition's ninety-year history. What an incredible milestone for these dedicated young dancers!
