Let’s talk sleep.
Not just “get 8 hours"I mean, what’s really going on while you snooze?
You’ve probably heard the buzzwords: delta sleep, REM, circadian rhythm... but what do they actually mean?
Sleep is your body’s built-in recovery program. Think: energy-saving mode, cellular clean-up, injury repair, and memory sorting.
But it’s not all one big nap—your brain cycles through stages every 90-120 minutes:
Stage 1 (NREM): You’re dozing off. Super light. Blink and you’re in stage 2.
Stage 2 (NREM): Light sleep with brain waves slowing down—your brain’s filing cabinet is open, sorting memories.
Stage 3 (NREM): Deep sleep. Hello healing, immune boost, and total refresh.
REM: Dream time. Brain lights up, the body slows down. This is when your mind processes emotions and memories, and improves cognitive function.
Each stage has a purpose. If you’re waking up groggy, it might not be about sleep duration—but sleep quality.
So before you blame your alarm clock… maybe it’s time to evaluate your sleep cycle.
