Exciting news from NBME!

We're pleased to announce that Suzanne T. Anderson, MBA, has been selected as NBME's next President and CEO following a comprehensive national search.

A highly respected health care leader, Sue brings extensive leadership experience both in her health care system work and volunteering in numerous governance positions with organizations such as the USMLE® program, Intealth, ABMSA, and NBME.

Sue will succeed Peter J Katsufrakis, MD, MBA, who will retire after nearly 10 years as CEO, on November 30, 2026.

On August 14, we experienced delays sending and receiving emails due to an issue with our email provider. We understand how frustrating these delays can be and appreciate your patience as the issue is resolved. While the majority of email services have been restored, the provider continues to work toward full resolution. Our team will continue the monitor the situation over the weekend with the provider.

This year, NBME doubled the number of awards in the NBME/NMF Scholarship Program, recognizing 20 medical students with demonstrated financial need and a strong history of service.

For scholarship recipient Mikayla Bartelt, the award is also a reminder of the communities she hopes to serve:

"Growing up in rural southern Minnesota, I saw firsthand how where you live, your financial circumstances, and access to opportunity shape health and access to care. Those experiences inspired me to pursue a career improving health care access for rural and underserved communities.”
