When reality does not match our expectations, we become upset. Think about it for a second. This is about true reality, not the illusions we create in our minds. Accepting our reality is critical to prevent suffering.
But what are these expectations? How often are we in a bad mood because of them? Or throw a tantrum because of expectations. Suffering stems directly from our expectations. When we hold expectations, we attach certain requirements to people and situations. At that point, we stop seeing life as it truly is. Instead, we focus on an uncertain future, which leads to frustration. Expectations are hefty burdens that obstruct our peace.
Releasing the desire to control outcomes or to gain something in return opens the door to true freedom. Think about your life, your relationships, your upbringing... Your limitations are not due to the experiences but the expectations.
What are you expecting in this moment? Are you hoping for a call from someone, a job opportunity, more likes on social media, a promotion, a financial boost, or waiting for someone to marry you? People go to college and expect to take make a lot of money> We can easily spend years longing for others to connect, reply to our messages, or meet our expectations, which frequently brings unnecessary pain.
Instead of expecting, we should simply wait, which has the power to transform us. By dropping our expectations, we enjoy life more fully. If we don’t expect, we won’t experience frustration.
