Michelle Cole has been an RN for 19 years and has dedicated the last 12 years to caring for our community at Phillips County Health Department.

She is the proud mom of 4 grown children, recently celebrated one daughter getting married, and is excited for another daughter graduating college this year.

When asked what she enjoys most about nursing, she said:“I enjoy knowing I made a difference for someone and connecting with people through all stages of life.”

Happy Nurses Week to one of our amazing nurses! 💙

Brandy Shelton has been a nurse for 27 years and has dedicated 26 of those years to serving Phillips County Health Department as an LPN. Her compassion, experience, and dedication have touched countless lives in our community.

She is also a proud mom to 3 boys, a grandma to a new baby girl, and excitedly awaiting the arrival of a grandson!

When asked what she loves most about nursing, she said:
“Seeing the joy on a patient or caregiver’s face when you’ve made a difference — big or small.”

Mosquitoes can transmit a variety of viruses so it's important to be prepared to keep you and your family mosquito-bite free. Avoid mosquito bites by following the three Ds:

DRAIN – Eliminate standing water where mosquitoes live and breed.
DRESS – Cover your skin with clothing when outdoors.
DEET – Use insect repellents that contain DEET or other EPA-approved repellents.

BE TICK AWARE
- Ticks are common in Kansas and a natural part of the environment. If you spend time outdoors you will encounter ticks.
- Ticks can carry diseases that make people and animals sick. These include Ehrlichiosis, Tularemia, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and the red meat allergy, Alpha-Gal Syndrome.
- Take measures to prevent tick bites.
- Perform careful tick checks on yourself, children and pets.
- Watch out for symptoms for 30 days after a tick bite. See your doctor right away if you develop fever, headache, rash, fatigue, or any symptoms suggestive of tickborne disease. Early treatment can prevent severe illness.
