For those that have been following the news, the DEA has rescheduled MEDICAL C@nnabis to schedule III. After almost 10 years of participating in the recreational market, we are looking at a pivot towards what we are most passionate about, plant medicine. This week we have registered one of our two licenses to medical only. We have been wrestling with this decision for weeks before the expedited portal closes on June 26th, flushing out every scenario that might affect a very small craft producer, knowing that this decision could take us out completely. This announcement and rollout by the federal government was really best suited for large corporations and multi-state operators. Most of our fellow small producers can’t take this risk. With that being said, and given our beginnings under Prop 215 (the Compassionate Care Act), all our work with broad cannabinoid profiles, therapeutics, and landrace genetics… we knew this is the space where we are most passionate about. We feel grateful that we can keep a foot in both communities for now. We will keep you posted as things transpire. Thank you for your support!

Well the girls are in the ground for this season’s crop, but we are still germinating and doing our R&D work in the greenhouse. Along with some interesting Thai varietals with juicy fruit flavors, we are running through some interesting South Indian and very rare Korean landraces that through our research could possess broad chemical profiles and hopefully elevated minor cannabinoids we are on the hunt for. We will be doing some early veg testing with the lab at the farm and hopefully finding a unicorn or two that we can grow out this season.

We come across many nests at Sugar Hill Farm when we are working on the gardens, but this one I came across on ground this week is stunning.

Our Spiritus Mundi (Spirit of the World) line was created to showcase our most rare ancient and heirloom cultivars in our medicinal garden at Sugar Hill Farm. Through our years of running analysis and data testing, this is where we are unlocking broad C@nnabinoid profiles with interesting terpene clusters that offer therapeutic potential and layered effects. The flower may look wild and unwieldy, but this is what tribes and villages around the globe used as medicine.

First farm tour of the season at Sugar Hill Farm! Guest’s staying with us & .brambles joined us at the farm this morning to learn about our C@nn@bis cultivation and our practices. What we are hearing most from folks is their dissatisfaction with the current offerings of flower that driven by large industrial players. We invite the public to come join us for our first farmers market tomorrow Sunday, May 24, from 11-5pm, at The Madrones and meet some of our fellow legacy craft farmers in the area.

Black African Magic is back on the menu! Every season we grow out this rare tribal landrace that our dear friend Hardy collected on his travels through Africa and generously gifted to us. The effects of this equatorial sativa are cerebral, creative and a bit altering.

We have always believed that this amazing plant does not reach it’s full expression or potential unless it is exposed to all the elements. Just like grapes grown for wine, terroir and the sense of place differentiates one cultivar harvest from another. This simply can’t be recreated in a climate controlled environment. As natural sungrown flower has taken a backseat to the corporate industrialization of factory w**d, our time has come to reclaim a special place on the shelves of retailers. Let’s reconsider the category of “Top Shelf”
~
As the California C@nn@bis Appellations Program (the first of its kind) is launched, craft producers in legacy growing regions have an important seat at the table. We appreciate this feature by that did a few years ago on our brand and farm using the intersection of where wine and w**d meet.
