First thinning of the season!
~
We are out thinning out the girls this week and offering them some support as we move into the final flowering cycle. We still have a couple months to go on a most of these varietals and a lot of our equatorial sativas are already almost 12 feet in height! Going down the rows we have Acapulco Gold and Swazi Gold on the left and One Unicorn (our own 1:1 creation) as well as a cross between Durban Poison THCv and a rare Mozambique Poison. The final row is Lambs Bread — along with a cross of the landraces ( the very rare Uganda Mamba “The Snake” x Swazi Gold x Black African Magic). Fingers crossed we can get all of this to finish this year!

Beyond the C@nn@bis plants in our R&D garden, there is a riot of color this time of year at Sugar Hill Farm. We’ve had a nice little rain storm last night which has brought back some freshness to our crop and gardens. Feeling blessed to be in such a beautiful place with an amazing climate for growing.

There have been so many posts regarding the passing of Dolly Parton this week. We are traveling as the news came in, and are so incredibly saddened by her sudden passing. She was such a support of our own LGBTQ community. With the rise of Christian Nationalism, Dolly truly followed Christ, by letting everyone in, embracing her fellow humans with love, grace & kindness. She refused to judge others, seeing all of us (including herself) as imperfectly perfect. We all need to follow her example and lead with kindness. RIP Dolly, you took your earthly wings with you. ❤️💛💚💙💜

The Real Deal…PANAMA RED!!

So a local from our area (Emerald Triangle) gifted us these cuttings this week. He had some 50 year old Panama Red bag seed that he decided to pop this season. 12 germinated, but only one made it past an inch of growth.. and she had vigor! Just got a note to keep her going, which we are going to do. We have several true Panama Reds in our genetic library and this has all the signs in its growth. It is just going into flowering, so this will go into our cloning bed, then we will bring her back to veg to map the next steps. It is rare to get seed this old to germinate and fully mature. It is a true gift! Thank you Scott!!!

Verde Limon~

Next release on our menu is this old Mexican heirloom from the southern Chiapas area, south of Oaxaca. Originally sourced from HYP3RIDS , we were so impressed by the final product that it will again be in our next harvest lineup. We could tell that it has been worked with through the years, as its appearance, yield, and bud structure is more refined than some of the more true regional varieties of the area. Expect the typical effects we love from old Mexican cultivars, it is energizing, uplifting and giggly.

OH GEEZ ~ “Alderpoint OG”

The roots of “Oh Geez” is from a legendary classic, and it is an early one as the resin production is in full swing. I originally picked up seeds years ago at a Humboldt seed swap of this regional heirloom which is a cross of San Fernando Valley OG, Topanga Canyon OG as well as Sour Diesel. Also know as Alderpoint Sour in different variations, this one leans heavier on the Kush side as we have been further working and refining it at the farm. We are growing it along with an old Highland Hindu Kush landrace and the infamous PUCK HP at the farm this year. Only release once before at The Bohemian Chemist, it was really well received by those OG Kush lovers. We are looking forward to having on the menu again for Late 2026/ early 2027.

Two special cultivars are going to be hitting our menu this month. Developed by SILKROUTETOSALVATION & INDIAN LANDRACE EXCHANGE™ , we had the pleasure of growing out these remarkable strains at Sugar Hill Farm this past season. Created and refined by using ancient landrace cultivars like Hindu Kush, Burmese, Neelam and Chitral Valley varieties, there was a remarkable amount of work and refining done without accessing modern hybrid genetics. This is an inspiration for own breeding work at our farm when working with the gene pool of heirlooms and regional landraces. Final labs are in the works on this gorgeous flower which is so unique!

Matanuska Thunderf**k! How have I never grown this before. The nose on this one really takes really teleports me back. Originally grown in Alaska’s Matanuska-Susitna Valley in the 1970s, this resinous plant is already in full flower. Perfectly suited for Alaska’s short growing season it is believed that it was refined in the early 1980s (my era) and crossed with some Russian ruderalis variants for hardiness and early harvest. Looks like limited yields, so not great for commercial production, but we are growing it anyway.
