Research in relationship psychology shows that pursuing behavior, which includes excessive texting, over-explaining, and constant check-ins when a partner withdraws, often triggers what is known as a pursuer-distancer dynamic.
In this pattern the more one person chases, the further the other retreats. Not always out of cruelty, but because the pressure itself creates the urge to create distance.
Understanding this cycle is the first step to breaking it. And breaking it starts with you, not them.
