Sometimes our hands remember moments our hearts never forgot. 💜

A simple hairstyling activity—brushing, braiding and making pigtails on a mannequin head—brought one of our ladies to tears as she remembered doing her daughter’s hair when she was little. 🥹

What was once an everyday task became a treasured memory decades later.

That’s the beautiful power of nostalgia—turning a simple activity into a connection with a life well lived. 💜

If you know, you know… Grandma always had a tissue tucked up her sleeve. 🤧

No purse? No pockets? No problem. That sleeve was basically a built-in tissue holder!

It’s funny how something so simple can instantly bring back memories of the grandmas and great-grandmas we love. 🥰

Who else had a grandma who did this? 🤔

“Her JOY gives me JOY.” 💜

One of our instructors said this recently after seeing a resident light up during an activity, and those five little words perfectly capture something we experience every day at enLIVEn.

There’s actually a name for it: vicarious joy—the happiness we feel simply from witnessing someone else’s happiness.

We may walk into a home hoping to brighten someone’s day, bring a smile, spark a laugh, or create a meaningful moment. But the beautiful thing about this work is that the joy comes right back to us.

A big smile. An unexpected laugh. The pride of finishing a project. Someone joining in who usually sits on the sidelines. Those moments fill our cups, too.

We bring the activities, but our residents give us something pretty special in return.

Their joy gives us joy. 💜

Sometimes the best activities are created with a little ingenuity! 💜

L. asked for something she could use to help keep her weakened leg and foot moving—even while lying in bed. With a shortened pool noodle, some string, and a balloon, we created a simple activity just for her to do on her own! 🎈

It doesn’t have to be fancy to be effective. Adapting activities to meet each person where they are is what enLIVEn is all about—finding ways to keep moving, participating, and having fun! 💜

J. hasn’t been feeling up to participating in activities lately, but a simple invitation to come sit with the group and watch was the jump-start she needed. Before long, she was joining in with our lacing project and balloon volleyball! 🎈

Afterwards, she said, “Being out here really did make my tummy ache go away.”

A little connection, distraction, and fun can be powerful medicine. 💜

Sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most. 💜

While visiting a resident at a skilled nursing facility, she admired the colorful bracelet I was wearing. I slipped it off and told her she could have it—I could always make myself another.

She’s been wearing it all week and proudly tells the nurses to be careful with it because “my teacher gave it to me.” 🥹

After so many needles, pokes, and bruises, she now has something bright and cheerful to look at on her wrist instead.

It was just a bracelet to me. To her, it was a gift from someone who cares. And that’s what enLIVEn is really all about. 💜

Modified Scrabble. No pressure, meet them where they are, spell words that are familiar to them and at their level. This activity had been a hit all week!

Too often, society defines aging by a growing list of things older adults can’t do.

At enLIVEn Activities, we choose to focus on what they CAN do.

Maybe they can’t run a marathon anymore, but they can paint, laugh, learn something new, reminisce, sing every word to a favorite song, solve a puzzle, make a new friend, celebrate a holiday, or discover a hidden talent. When we meet people where they are instead of focusing on what they’ve lost, amazing things happen.

And sometimes… they even break Guinness World Records.

This incredible 97-year-old recently broke her own world record as the oldest female wing walker, proving that age doesn’t define what’s possible—it simply changes what possibility looks like. (People.com)

Every person deserves the opportunity to keep growing, creating, and surprising themselves. We feel honored to witness those moments every single day. 💜

One of our participants recently asked if she could have some “homework” to work on between our visits. ❤️

To us, that request meant so much more than wanting something to pass the time. It meant she was looking for a way to keep her mind engaged, continue creating, and have something to look forward to throughout the week.

Staying mentally active doesn’t have to involve complicated puzzles or long exercise routines. Sometimes it’s as simple as coloring a picture, listening to music, working on a craft, reminiscing over old photographs, or playing a favorite game. Those small moments of engagement help keep the brain active, provide a sense of purpose, and bring joy to everyday life.

We love that our activities don’t have to end when we walk out the door. If we can help inspire someone to keep creating, exploring, and staying engaged between visits, that’s a win in our book. 💜
