Simple daily habits and practice can improve your sleep quality.

Your body relies on biology to cue our brain to sleep, but only in the most perfect setting will you feel rested.

The small things can add up!

Low lighting at night, a cool room, nasal breathing, lessen mental stimulation at night … all can make a marked difference.

Any other tips welcomed 🫶🏼

Most people go years, sometimes decades managing headaches, jaw tension, and fatigue without anyone ever looking at how their tongue rests, how they breathe through the night, or how their swallow pattern affects their whole body.

Your tongue posture influences your airway. Your airway influences your sleep. Your sleep influences everything else.

This is what myofunctional therapy looks at and what most providers aren't trained to screen for.

If you've been told your symptoms are stress, or hormones, or just getting older, it might be time to look a little deeper.

We work with adults and children in person in Mesa and Phoenix as well as online .

why do people come to see us?
because we know how to get the muscles in your mouth , face, and neck to do what they should have been doing. WE have to strengthen muscles first. Then we teach those stronger muscles how to move without the jaw, and rest when not in use.

This creates new behaviors- functional behaviors that help decrease symptoms that are common with dysfunctional muscles.

Symptoms that go along with dysfunctional mouth and face muscles can range from bad sleep, feeling tired often, allergies, dry mouth, jaw pain and or clenching, air hunger, anxiety, oral health problems, the list goes on.

What's rad about myofunctional therapy is that once you retrain the muscles and they are stronger, that's it. You have new habits that help you rather than hurt you. And that's called muscle memory.

My autism recognizes patterns. When you tell me you have jaw pain, I see it immediately. Your knees are locked. You wear glasses. You have thin lips. I know where this conversation is going.
I healed my own jaw at 37 through myofunctional therapy. By 46, I was seeing these clusters everywhere in our patient population. Allergies. Vision issues. Joint instability. Facial features. They all pointed to hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome—and suddenly my whole life made sense. My growing pains, severe allergies, stress fractures in the military, neurodivergence, chronic pain. Everything.
On average, zebras like me wait 20 years for diagnosis. I won't let that happen to you. We screen every patient for hypermobility and refer you to the right providers because the whole person matters, not just the jaw.
I don't want you going through years without answers, support, or direction. My goal is to help as many women find clarity, feel better, and become who they're meant to be.

Kelley

And Teresa is a mouth breather.

🪑 I’m going to share this with you because no one else will when you visit the dentist. They are supposed to assess your breathing and sleep patterns, and if they detect any issues, they should provide recommendations and referrals to help you improve your quality of life, which you may not even realize is affected.

You shouldn’t feel tired during the day, and you shouldn’t wake up with a headache. Additionally, you shouldn’t have every molar on your upper jaw cracked and require fillings. Furthermore, you shouldn’t be living with a night guard. These are not normal conditions, and there are solutions available. You’ve simply never been informed about them, and no one has explained that these are all connected.

This was me, my story is your story.
Our team provides therapy to help you feel better. Sleep better.
Myofunctional therapy.

yes , there is a proper way to breathe.

Breathing function relates to a state of mind, a state of being.

Think about this logically, when you are nervous and stressed - what happens to your breathing?

This can become a negative feedback loop where the breathing effects the mental state vs the mental state effects the breathing.

how to change this:
1) you have to be aware of how you breathe.
is it fast? is it effortful?
if yes to the above ...
2) slow down the breath.
rest the tongue to the palate and seal your lips (without tension)
focus on inhaling for 3, exhaling for 4
or inhaling for 2, exhaling for 3
and so on. use the cadence you need to make you feel comfortable.
3) try this for 1-2 minutes a day at first.
gradually move this up 1 minute each week.
4) mouth closed with exercises, walking.
slow down the effort. make movement work for improving your breathing.
5) when feeling anxous, stressed be aware of your breath, and pull in the exercise listed in #2.

let me know if you try it!

your brain isn't goverened by emotions, you ARE IN CONTROL.
