The Creighton University School of Medicine Phoenix Anesthesiology Residency is the first new anesthesiology residency program established in Arizona in more than 20 years and only the third in the state.

For members of the inaugural residency cohort, the opportunity is about more than training. It's a chance to help shape a new program from the very beginning.

“Honestly, what excites me the most is building a legacy here at Creighton with all of the people who supported me along my journey,” says Vinh Ngo, MD'26, who matched into the Phoenix program.

The program includes training at Creighton Alliance member sites, including
Valleywise Health and St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center.

For Megan Gainer, MD, the people made all the difference.

Now training in radiology in Phoenix through Creighton Alliance partner sites, including Health
and St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, Megan says the mentors and colleagues around her helped shape her passion for the field.

“Creighton’s radiology program is the reason I fell in love with radiology. I couldn’t ask for better attendings, co-residents or work-life balance.”

We’re excited to see the impact she’ll continue making in radiology and patient care.

After completing residency with Creighton University School of Medicine Phoenix, Mustafa Suppah, MD, is continuing his training through the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship in Phoenix.

Mustafa’s interest in cardiology began early. Growing up in Egypt and witnessing serious illness within his family inspired him to pursue medicine and ultimately specialize in cardiovascular care.

“Cardiology offers a unique blend of acute inpatient care, long-term patient relationships and procedural intervention,” he said. “The field continues to evolve through research and innovation, creating opportunities to improve outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease.”

During residency, Mustafa also served as Chief Resident, developing leadership and mentorship skills while caring for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions.

Phoenix has since become home for Mustafa and his family, making his work serving patients in the community especially meaningful.

Looking ahead, he hopes to continue advancing cardiovascular care through patient-centered treatment, research and mentorship.
