Most women are told their symptoms are “normal.”
Fatigue?
Normal.
Brain fog?
Normal.
Heavy periods?
Normal.
Weight gain despite doing everything right?
Normal.
Mood swings, insomnia, low libido, anxiety, burnout?
“Welcome to getting older.”
But here’s the problem:
Just because something is common does not mean it’s normal.
One of the biggest issues in healthcare today is how quickly we normalize dysfunction instead of investigating it.
Women are incredibly resilient. Many continue functioning while silently dealing with hormone imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies, chronic stress, inflammation, insulin resistance, or perimenopausal changes that have never truly been addressed.
And too often, they’ve already been dismissed before they’re finally heard.
As healthcare providers, we have to ask ourselves:
Are we managing symptoms… or are we truly listening?
The future of medicine cannot just be faster appointments and more prescriptions. It has to include deeper conversations, individualized care, prevention, education, and helping patients understand that they deserve to feel well.
Not “fine.”
Not “surviving.”
Actually well.
Curious what others think:
What’s one symptom people are too quick to normalize in women’s health?
