πŸ€’ Flu Symptoms Can Hit Fast β€” Know What to Do
Fever, chills, body aches, cough, sore throat, congestion, headache, and sudden fatigue can turn a normal day upside down.
For many people, flu care starts with:
βœ… Rest
βœ… Plenty of fluids
βœ… Acetaminophen or ibuprofen when appropriate
βœ… Warm fluids, saline spray, or a cool-mist humidifier
βœ… Staying home while fever and acute symptoms are present
Testing can also help when symptoms could be caused by influenza, COVID-19, strep throat, or another respiratory infection.
At Tri-County Urgent Care, Health & Wellness Center in Phoenixville, we can evaluate flu-like symptoms and determine whether testing or antiviral treatment may be appropriate.
πŸ’Š Flu antiviral medications may help some patients, especially when started early β€” often within the first 48 hours of symptoms.
Consider same-day evaluation if:
βœ… Fever is persistent or worsening
βœ… Cough or congestion is becoming more severe
βœ… You are having difficulty staying hydrated
βœ… You have asthma or another chronic medical condition
βœ… Symptoms improve and then suddenly worsen
βœ… You are unsure whether it is flu, COVID-19, strep, or another infection
🚨 Call 911 or go to the emergency room for severe trouble breathing, persistent chest pain, blue or gray lips, confusion, seizures, inability to stay awake, or severe dehydration.
πŸ’‰ And don’t forget prevention: seasonal flu vaccination can lower the risk of severe illness and complications.

πŸ”₯ Minor Burn? Cool It First β€” Then Protect the Skin
A hot pan, curling iron, coffee spill, or grill can cause a painful burn in seconds. For small, minor burns, the first steps can make a big difference.
Start with:
βœ… Cool running water for about 20 minutes
βœ… Gently remove rings, watches, or tight items before swelling starts
βœ… Wash the area gently with clean water and mild soap
βœ… Pat dry β€” do not scrub
βœ… Cover with a sterile nonstick dressing
βœ… Use acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain when appropriate
Avoid:
❌ Ice or frozen packs directly on the burn
❌ Butter, oil, toothpaste, or other home remedies
❌ Hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol on the wound
❌ Popping intact blisters
❌ Pulling away clothing that is stuck to burned skin
Seek same-day medical care if the burn is:
⚠️ Larger than the person’s palm
⚠️ On the face, hands, feet, ge****ls, buttocks, or a major joint
⚠️ Becoming more painful, swollen, or red
⚠️ Showing drainage, pus, red streaks, fever, or other signs of infection
⚠️ Associated with broken skin or uncertain tetanus status
🚨 Go to the emergency room or call 911 for severe burns, burns that look white, charred, leathery, or numb, significant chemical or electrical burns, smoke inhalation, trouble breathing, fainting, confusion, or signs of shock.
At Tri-County Urgent Care, Health & Wellness Center in Phoenixville, we provide walk-in evaluation for many non-emergency burns and minor injuries.

😴 Severe Fatigue + Sore Throat? It Could Be Mono
Mononucleosis can look a lot like strep throat, flu, COVID-19, or another viral infection. That is why testing and a medical exam can be helpful when symptoms are persistent or more severe than expected.
Common symptoms of mono may include:
βœ… Significant fatigue
βœ… Sore throat
βœ… Fever
βœ… Swollen neck glands
βœ… Enlarged or inflamed tonsils
βœ… Headache or body aches
βœ… Reduced appetite
βœ… Occasionally, a rash
Testing may include:
πŸ§ͺ Rapid Monospot testing
πŸ§ͺ EBV antibody blood testing
πŸ§ͺ CBC or other laboratory testing when appropriate
πŸ§ͺ Strep, flu, or COVID-19 testing when symptoms overlap
One important point: a rapid mono test can sometimes be negative early in the illness. If symptoms strongly suggest mono, additional or repeat testing may be needed.
If mono is confirmed or strongly suspected, treatment usually focuses on rest, hydration, and symptom relief. Antibiotics do not treat EBV.
⚠️ Athletes and people with physically demanding jobs should be especially cautious. Mono can enlarge the spleen, so contact sports, heavy lifting, and activities with a risk of abdominal impact may need to be avoided until medically cleared.
🚨 Seek emergency care for trouble breathing, inability to swallow saliva, severe dehydration, fainting, severe or worsening abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or sudden pain in the upper left abdomen or left shoulder.
At Tri-County Urgent Care, Health & Wellness Center in Phoenixville, we provide walk-in evaluation 7 days a week for patients age 2 and older with sore throat, fever, fatigue, and other non-emergency illnesses.

🩹 Worried a Cut or Wound May Be Infected?
A wound can look a little red or tender while it heals, but symptoms that are getting worse instead of better may be a sign of infection.
At Tri-County Urgent Care, Health & Wellness Center in Phoenixville, we provide same-day walk-in evaluation for many non-emergency wound concerns.
Signs a wound may be infected include:
βœ… Redness that is spreading
βœ… Increasing warmth or swelling
βœ… Worsening pain or throbbing
βœ… Thick yellow, green, gray, or foul-smelling drainage
βœ… Pus or a new pocket of fluid
βœ… Fever, chills, or feeling unwell
βœ… Wound edges opening or failing to heal
βœ… Red streaks extending away from the wound
Some wounds deserve earlier evaluation, including:
🩹 Puncture wounds
🩹 Animal or human bites
🩹 Cuts exposed to soil or dirty water
🩹 Wounds with possible retained debris or splinters
🩹 Hand, foot, face, or joint-area wounds
🩹 Diabetic foot wounds
🩹 Injuries in people with poor circulation or weakened immune systems
Treatment depends on what the wound looks like and how it happened. Care may include cleaning, drainage when appropriate, dressing, tetanus evaluation, antibiotics when clinically indicated, or referral for a higher level of care.
🚨 Go to the emergency room or call 911 for uncontrolled bleeding, rapidly spreading redness, severe pain, high fever, black or gray tissue, exposed bone or tendon, loss of movement or sensation, confusion, fainting, or other serious symptoms.
For minor wounds at home, rinse gently with clean running water, keep the area covered with a clean dressing, and avoid repeatedly using hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol inside the wound.

🧠 Hit Your Head? Know the Signs of a Possible Concussion
A concussion does not always look dramatic, and you do not have to lose consciousness to have one.
Symptoms can develop right away β€” or several hours later β€” after a fall, sports injury, workplace accident, car crash, or other blow or jolt to the head.
Common concussion symptoms may include:
βœ… Headache or pressure in the head
βœ… Dizziness or balance problems
βœ… Nausea
βœ… Feeling unusually tired
βœ… Trouble concentrating or remembering
βœ… Feeling β€œfoggy” or slowed down
βœ… Sensitivity to light or noise
βœ… Irritability, anxiety, or mood changes
βœ… Changes in sleep
For children, watch for unusual crying, clinginess, poor balance, changes in eating or sleeping, or behavior that seems different from normal.
Same-day medical evaluation may be appropriate when symptoms develop after a head injury, even if they initially seem mild.
🚨 Go to the emergency room or call 911 for:
Severe or worsening headache
Repeated vomiting
Increasing confusion or difficulty waking
Seizure
Slurred speech, weakness, or numbness
One pupil larger than the other
Significant vision changes
Blood or clear fluid from the nose or ears
Worsening symptoms after loss of consciousness
At Tri-County Urgent Care, Health & Wellness Center in Phoenixville, we provide walk-in evaluation for many non-emergency injuries and can help determine whether a higher level of care or imaging is needed.

🩹 Does This Cut Need Stitches?
Some cuts can heal well with cleaning, a bandage, and observation. Others should be evaluated promptly because closing the wound may help control bleeding, protect deeper tissue, support healing, and reduce scarring.
At Tri-County Urgent Care, Health & Wellness Center in Phoenixville, we provide same-day evaluation for many non-emergency cuts and lacerations.
Consider urgent care if the wound:
βœ… Is deep or gaping
βœ… Keeps bleeding after 10–15 minutes of firm pressure
βœ… Has edges that will not stay together
βœ… Exposes fatty tissue or deeper structures
βœ… Is on the face, lips, hands, fingers, feet, or over a joint
βœ… Was caused by broken glass, a dirty object, bite, puncture, or fishhook
βœ… May need cleaning, closure, or a tetanus update
Depending on the wound, treatment may include:
🩹 Traditional stitches
🩹 Skin adhesive
🩹 Sterile closure strips
🩹 Wound cleaning and dressing
🩹 Tetanus evaluation when appropriate
🚨 Go to the emergency room or call 911 for uncontrolled or spurting bleeding, exposed bone or tendon, major trauma, severe numbness or weakness, loss of movement, or a deep wound involving the eye, neck, chest, abdomen, or groin.
Before you are seen, apply firm continuous pressure with clean gauze or cloth. Avoid pouring hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, or iodine directly into a deep wound.

🦠 Sore Throat? A Strep Test Can Help You Know What Comes Next
Not every sore throat is strep. Many are caused by viruses, which do not improve with antibiotics.
At Tri-County Urgent Care, Health & Wellness Center in Phoenixville, we can evaluate sore throat symptoms and perform strep testing when clinically appropriate.
Strep may be more likely when symptoms include:
βœ… Sudden significant sore throat
βœ… Pain with swallowing
βœ… Fever
βœ… Swollen neck glands
βœ… Red or enlarged tonsils
βœ… White patches on the tonsils
βœ… Headache, body aches, or rash
Symptoms such as cough, runny nose, hoarseness, or pink eye are more commonly associated with viral illnesses.
Testing may include:
πŸ§ͺ Rapid strep testing with results during the visit
πŸ§ͺ Additional throat culture or molecular testing when appropriate
A positive test may lead to antibiotic treatment. A negative test may mean supportive care is the better approach, depending on the patient’s age, symptoms, and whether confirmatory testing is needed.
For viral sore throats, treatment may include fluids, rest, age-appropriate pain or fever medication, and other comfort measures.
🚨 Seek emergency care for trouble breathing, inability to swallow saliva, drooling, severe neck swelling, blue lips, confusion, or severe dehydration.

πŸ‘‚ Earache? Know When Home Care Is Enough β€” and When to Get Checked
Ear pain can come from more than an ear infection. Colds, swimmer’s ear, earwax, sinus pressure, sore throat, dental problems, or TMJ issues can all cause discomfort that feels like it is coming from the ear.
At Tri-County Urgent Care, Health & Wellness Center in Phoenixville, we provide walk-in evaluation 7 days a week for patients age 2 and older.
Urgent care may be appropriate for:
βœ… Ear pain lasting more than 24–48 hours
βœ… Fever with ear pain
βœ… Ear drainage
βœ… Muffled or decreased hearing
βœ… Swimmer’s ear symptoms
βœ… Earwax blockage or fullness
βœ… Dizziness or vomiting with ear symptoms
βœ… Ear pain associated with a cold, sinus symptoms, or sore throat
Treatment depends on the cause. Some middle-ear infections may improve without antibiotics, while others may need prescription treatment. Swimmer’s ear is often treated differently, and impacted earwax may need safe removal.
For mild symptoms at home:
βœ”οΈ Use acetaminophen or ibuprofen as directed when appropriate
βœ”οΈ Try a warm compress over the outside of the ear
βœ”οΈ Rest and stay hydrated
❌ Do not insert cotton swabs or other objects into the ear
❌ Do not use leftover antibiotic or medicated ear drops without medical guidance
🚨 Seek emergency care for severe symptoms such as sudden facial weakness, confusion, seizure, serious head injury, severe swelling behind the ear, sudden major hearing loss, or severe dizziness.

πŸ’™ Ready to Start Recovery Treatment? You Don’t Need to Have Everything Figured Out.
Recovery can begin with one honest, confidential conversation.
You do not need to hit β€œrock bottom,” know exactly which treatment you need, or promise to do everything perfectly before asking for help.
At Tri-County Urgent Care, Health & Wellness Center in Phoenixville, we provide physician-led addiction medicine for adults with opioid and alcohol use disorders.
Your treatment plan may include:
βœ… Confidential medical evaluation
βœ… Assessment of withdrawal and overdose risk
βœ… Medication treatment when clinically appropriate
βœ… Buprenorphine/Suboxone treatment for opioid use disorder when appropriate
βœ… Treatment options for alcohol use disorder
βœ… Ongoing medical follow-up
βœ… Behavioral health and recovery-support coordination
βœ… Telemedicine follow-up when appropriate
βœ… Referral to detox, residential, or higher levels of care when needed
Some people can begin treatment while continuing to work and live at home. Others may need a more structured or medically supervised setting. The right plan depends on your health, substance use, withdrawal risk, support system, and goals.
A return to use does not mean treatment is over. It may simply mean the plan needs to be reassessed and additional support added.
