Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is more common than many realize and often misunderstood.
During HS Awareness Week, it is important to recognize that people living with HS may experience recurring, painful lumps or open wounds that can be difficult to manage and slow to heal.
Because symptoms can look like other skin conditions, diagnosis is often delayed, sometimes by several years.
Early recognition and the right care approach can make a meaningful difference. Support may include managing active wounds, protecting surrounding skin, and helping individuals stay more comfortable day to day.
Common signs to be aware of:
• Recurrent painful bumps or abscesses
• Areas that drain or do not fully heal
• Symptoms in areas like the underarms, groin, or under the breasts
If something does not seem right, it is important to speak with a healthcare provider.
Awareness is a powerful first step toward better care and support.
