Have trouble staying motivated?
Join the club. Why is it that we all make beautiful goals in January only to have them fall apart in a few months (if that!)?
Mixing in our busy life, demanding career, and just the sheer stress of it all... almost leaves us feeling like it's impossible to ever reach that long coveted physique and holistic health goals.
Here is where neuroscience comes in... by figuring out our "why" we are able to use this in times of stress to continue to make healthy choices, thereby leading to long term success.
So what is your why?
Your why is the deep down reason for making the commitment to get in shape in the first place. Start with your goal:
"I want to lose 20 pounds."
Then ask why....
"So that I can have energy to travel and play with my kids."
Then continue to follow this rabbit hole and ask the why why questions until you have come to the ultimate life shattering result of losing those 20 pounds.
"I want to have energy to take my kids/husband/wife to hike mountains in Thailand for my 50th birthday."
Life will inevitably get hard. When it does and your motivation is in question, remind yourself of the reward you will receive with achieving that goal. The reward system in your brain will create dopamine. Increasing dopamine creates a feedback loop that will help you continue to stay motivated and consistent towards your goals.
