We are Evolving
What Began as Piquant Spa & Gallery in 2019 Is Becoming Piquant Gallery in 2026

by Michael D. Culver – Resident Artist and Co-owner

What began as Piquant Spa & Gallery in 2019 wasn’t just a business. It was a season — one shaped by curiosity, courage, and the simple belief that a small space in Piqua could hold something meaningful.
Seven years later, WE find ourselves standing in a different moment. Not a closing. Not an ending. Just a shift — the kind that happens when life nudges us toward what feels more honest.

And so, in 2026, WE let the spa chapter rest and allow Piquant Gallery to come forward. A quieter space. A creative space. A place shaped by the mountain that has followed us through every reflection, every painting, every conversation about what WE are becoming.
Before WE open this next chapter, WE need to clear the room — literally.

WE’RE hosting a Garage Sale at the Gallery, letting go of the pieces that served their season:
• Furniture that held conversations
• Kitchen appliances that helped build community
• A full kitchen setup that once fed ideas
• Spa pieces and displays that carried the early vision

If you want to support this transition — or simply enjoy the hunt for a good find — stop by my Marketplace listings under Michael D. Culver or reach out through the Piquant Gallery page to set up a time to look around.

This moment isn’t about downsizing. It’s about aligning. WE clear space so WE can see what’s next. WE let go so WE can carry less. WE make room so the new chapter has somewhere to land.

Warm smiles, good deals, and a quiet sense of becoming — all waiting for you at Piquant Gallery.

From the season that shaped us to the chapter that calls us,
Michael, Karen, and Tammy

Current Hours:
Thursday 2PM - 6PM
Saturday 10AM - 2PM

Special times will be posted here...Stay Tuned!

From Light to Canvas
A Reflection by Michael D. Culver

There are paintings that begin with an idea, and there are paintings that begin with an experience so profound it rearranges the way you see the world. This one began in the quiet aftermath of my near-death experience — those four and a half minutes when my body stopped, my consciousness slipped, and I found myself moving toward a light that was not metaphor, not imagination, but presence. I came back changed. And I came back trying to paint what I saw.

For more than two years, this canvas carried that struggle. I tried to place on it the clarity, the warmth, the pull of that light — the way it felt more real than anything I had ever known. But the human eye cannot paint what the soul perceives. I made attempt after attempt, each one falling short of the truth I carried inside. Eventually the painting sat untouched, waiting for a moment I didn’t yet know was coming.

Then came the device implantation. Then came the open heart surgery in 2025. Then came the long, slow return to myself. Tammy brought the painting home for me to work on, but it still sat. I wasn’t ready. My body was healing, but my spirit was still trying to understand what it had seen.

It wasn’t until months later — after the recovery, after the quiet, after the slow rebuilding — that I picked the brush back up. And something had shifted. I stopped trying to paint the light directly. Instead, the painting began to transform into the world as it looked after the light. The waterfalls appeared first — not violent, but purposeful, like the descent and return of consciousness. The rocks took shape next — layered, scarred, enduring, like the body that had carried me through surgeries and episodes and still refused to quit. The stream settled into place — steady, grounded, moving forward, the way life resumed after everything had been interrupted.

And then the mountains emerged. Not glowing, not dramatic, but quiet and luminous in their own way. They became the closest earthly analogue to what I saw during my NDE — not the light itself, but the memory of it. A horizon touched by something beyond it.

This painting is not a depiction of my near-death experience.

It is the integration of it. It is the landscape of someone who went somewhere, saw something, came back, and now sees the world differently.

And that makes it the perfect piece to stand at the beginning of Piquant Gallery’s rebirth.

Because the gallery, like this painting, is a return.
A continuation after interruption.
A new beginning shaped by everything that came before — the healing, the clarity, the truth, the light.

Tammy and I are creating again. Not from urgency, not from ambition, but from gratitude. From the simple fact that we are still here. From the understanding that art is one of the ways we honor the moments that nearly took us and the moments that brought us back.

This painting began with a journey toward the light.

It ended as a testament to the life that followed.

And now it opens the door to a new season at Piquant Gallery — one shaped by truth, by healing, and by the quiet power of beginning again.

Tammy and I are thankful for the couples who stopped in to see us today, including a couple from Toledo on their way to Front Street in Dayton. Meeting good people makes opening the door worthwhile.
We learn more from their experiences, they learn from ours, and that is how this community gets better by honest, human contact.

Our spa motto was : "Dedicated to Better Community Wellness",
but I believe it still fits the change to Piqua Gallery.
Wellness begins with peace of mind, and we have created an environment for that peace while experiencing the art which can transform you to where ever your heart feels moved to journey.

Currently we are open for the "Garage Sale" to make room for the next phase of our transformation. Come by to see what we have...Maybe some pots and pans for a child headed to college in the fall, dishes, appliances, and great wedding gifts with all jewelry 30% off. Come by for a tour of our environment and save some money on those gifts...

Thank you,
Piquant Gallery

From Light to Canvas
This short film is a glimpse into the quiet places where healing and creation meet.
What began as a single waterfall painting grew into a reflection on recovery, renewal, and the courage it takes to trust the light again.

Each frame in this reel carries a piece of that journey — the awakening, the reflection, and the return of hope.
It’s a reminder that truth isn’t just something we speak.
It’s something we create.
And creation itself is a way to heal.

If this moment speaks to you, share it with someone who might need the same light today.
