Tomorrow, Frank Pleasants will travel to Denver with Team Alleghenies to compete in the Transplant Games of America.

Frank received a lifesaving heart transplant on October 1, 2020, after decades of cardiac challenges that began with a major heart attack in 1987. Thanks to the generosity of his donor and donor family, he has been given a second chance at life.

Today, Frank enjoys traveling with his wife, Nancy, spending time with his daughter and two stepsons, golfing, and sharing his passion for Corvettes.

At the Games, Frank will participate in the Opening Ceremony, Donor Tribute Ceremony, Golf Singles, Golf Doubles, Texas Hold ’Em, and the Closing Ceremony. His participation is a powerful reminder of the impact of organ donation and what is possible after transplant.

We wish Frank and Team Alleghenies safe travels and an amazing week in Denver!

With just 3 days until Team Alleghenies travels to the 2026 Transplant Games, we are proud to spotlight athlete Travis Hansrote.

Travis received a life-saving liver transplant on February 9, 2023, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Since then, he has embraced every opportunity to honor his donor's gift by educating others about the importance of organ donation and living life to the fullest.

A lifelong educator, Travis previously worked in radio and television broadcasting before transitioning into teaching. This fall, he will begin an exciting new chapter teaching diesel mechanics. He and his wife, Julie, have been married for 32 years and are proud parents to daughters Olivia and Victoria, as well as grandparents to their grandson, Carter.

One of the ways Travis honors his donor each year is by organizing a flag-raising ceremony with his students during National Donate Life Month, helping raise awareness about the life-saving impact of organ donation.

At the 2026 Transplant Games, Travis will compete in Texas Hold 'Em, Trivia, Co****le, and Bowling as a member of Team Alleghenies.

As Team Alleghenies prepares to depart for the Games, we celebrate Travis's transplant journey, his commitment to educating others about organ donation, and the example he sets by honoring the gift of life every day. We wish him the best of luck and look forward to cheering him on in Denver!

💚💙 Go Team Alleghenies! 💙💚

With 5 days to go, we are excited to send off another athlete to the 2026 Transplant Games of America.

Twenty years after receiving her heart transplant, Melissa Bell continues to demonstrate the power of organ donation and the possibilities it creates. A heart and kidney recipient representing Team Alleghenies, Melissa has earned nine medals at previous Transplant Games and is looking to add more next week.

This year Melissa will compete in Trivia, Texas Hold ’Em, and Bowling while also participating in the Donor Tribute and the Closing Ceremony.

Her journey is a testament to the generosity of donors, the strength of transplant recipients, and the lasting impact of the gift of life.

With just 6 days to go until the 2026 Transplant Games in Denver, we’re honored to spotlight Christine Doren, a first-time Games attendee representing the donor family community.

Christine will participate in the 5K, Donor Tribute, and Opening Ceremony while honoring her husband, Steve Doren. Born with biliary atresia, Steve received his first liver transplant as a young adult and later underwent a second transplant in 2015 thanks to a living donor, his sister.

Christine and Steve met online while he was awaiting that second transplant. When Steve shared the challenges and uncertainties of life as a transplant candidate, Christine’s response was simple: “It’s a health issue, not a character issue.” She said yes to a future together, and the couple went on to share 15 years of marriage, travel, adventure, and countless memories made possible through the gift of donation.

When Steve passed away in 2025, he became an organ donor himself, continuing the cycle of hope that had given him so much life. Today, Christine honors both the donors who gave Steve more time and the recipients whose lives were changed by Steve’s final gift.

As a proud member of the UPMC donor family community, Christine carries Steve’s legacy forward and represents the lasting impact that organ donation has on families, recipients, and entire communities.

Her story is a powerful reminder that one “yes” can change countless lives.

We are excited to spotlight another one of our athletes headed to the 2026 Transplant Games of America in Denver to represent Team Alleghenies!

Greg Sabak of Morgantown, West Virginia, is a retired pharmacist and heart transplant recipient who received his lifesaving gift on July 24, 2016. After a 15½-year journey with heart disease and more than two years on the transplant waiting list, Greg was given a second chance at life through organ donation.

Since his transplant, Greg has been able to celebrate countless milestones with his son Spencer and family while returning to the activities he loves. In 2023, he represented Team Alleghenies at the World Transplant Games in Perth, Australia, earning a silver medal in singles bowling and a bronze medal in team bowling.

A seasoned Transplant Games competitor, Greg has already earned eight medals throughout his athletic career. This year, he hopes to add to that total as he competes in bowling, co****le, trivia, and Texas Hold'em in Denver, proudly representing Team Alleghenies and celebrating the gift of life through sport, friendship, and competition.

As an especially meaningful milestone, Greg will celebrate 10 years with his donor heart this July.

We are proud to have Greg on Team Alleghenies and grateful for the powerful example he sets of resilience, gratitude, and the life-changing impact of organ donation.

As family, friends, and fellow firefighters remember Tyler Storicks, they remember a young man whose life was defined by service to others.

A fifth-generation firefighter, Tyler spent four years serving his community through Fairfield Hose Company VFD. Following his tragic death, organizations throughout the community have stepped forward to support those he loved, including the Fallen Riders Memorial Fund, which recently presented Tyler's family with a donation in his memory.

Through his decision to become an organ and tissue donor, Tyler continues to make a difference in the lives of others. His final act of generosity reflects the same dedication, compassion, and selflessness he demonstrated throughout his life.

Tyler's legacy lives on through the lives he touched—and the lives he continues to impact through donation. We are honored to celebrate his gift and the community that continues to rally around his family.

Thank you to Erie News Now for sharing Tyler's story and helping honor his legacy of service and donation.
