Doula support is one of the biggest differences you can make for yourself in your team that will directly impact chances for your birth outcomes. We don’t dislike cesareans, we just want them to be given as an option when they are necessary or wanted. We don’t dislike epidurals, we love to see them being used as a tool, and when they work well. We work alongside providers, we will encourage everyone to be on the same page of your goals, to give you fully informed consent, and try our best to have a welcoming and calm birthday party.

Inductions have been super common lately and we have noticed the conversations parents are facing, are centered around fear- rather than providers going over full informed consent and refusal (backed by studies and statistics). Please know if you fear monger our families we will remind them they can find a different provider-even during labor. There are ways to convey the seriousness of potential outcomes, while still staying compassionate to the parent’s experience. To parents- you deserve respectful, competent care that provides you not only the benefits and risks, but also the alternatives and informed refusal.

We had the pleasure of supporting Cassie with her third baby, for the second time with GLDS, she chose to hire a professional and certified midwife for her birth. She knew that while her midwife was focused on keeping her and her baby safe and healthy, her doula and partner would prioritize her comfort, calm, and energy. We all worked incredibly well together to aid in the safe earthside delivery of a healthy baby girl. Meanwhile, Cassie was able to enjoy the comforts of home, a birthing tub, a walk in her garden, laboring at her front path on a birth ball while her partner rubbed her back, birth photography to process and remember it all afterwards, and the knowing that her team would keep her best interests at heart. With the Clancey case at every turn this week, it feels a bit more tender to be a mother… whether you are pregnant or postpartum I wanted to share some ideas of real self care to help you regulate if you are finding this to be challenging. Also, if you find yourself struggling- there are some great resources here, not a total and final list, but a good starting point. It’s hard to see the forest through the trees. When you are in the thick of it, second pregnancy, chasing a toddler, so many what ifs, breastfeeding battles, potty training, texting your doula for a pep talk when anxiety creeps in, it all seems like it is enough to swallow you whole. Then, one day you see your babies playing together, sharing their favorite snacks, teaching each other something, showing compassion to each other… and you realize you’d do it all over again for these little stinkers.

We steadily and slowly grew as the families we served did. “Wouldn’t it be great if there was xyz, that would be a life saver!” Xyz = nursery organizer, in home consultations for , meal preparation, a no bu****it and class, spinning babies consults when your kiddo is breech/transverse.
