We have been supporting LGBTQIA+ families since our inception, and the intentionality of these families is one of my favorite parts about them. Through steady presence, thoughtful care, and deep listening, doulas support families in moments that can feel uncertain or overwhelming. What may seem like small acts of support can have a lasting impact, shaping how people experience birth, recovery, and the early days of parenting.

Like a seed that grows into something much larger, this care doesn’t stop with one moment or one family. It ripples outward - into children who feel safe and supported as they grow up, into the ways those children go on to care for others as adults, and into people who witness this support and feel inspired to offer it in their own communities.🌱

Birth on earth at a glimpse -
Iceland, Norway, New Zealand, and the UK have the highest rates of midwife utilization, with Iceland leading at approximately 58 midwives per 1,000 live births

Japan: Often ranked #1 for lowest newborn mortality (roughly 1 in 1,111 births) and offers highly structured prenatal care.

US: The U.S. is currently working vigorously to solve maternal mortality which currently sits at a rate of 22.3 per 100,000 was more than 50% higher than the rate in the next closest country studied.
Black women in the U.S. had a maternal mortality rate more than double the country’s overall rate in 2022.
Differences in health insurance, the use of midwives and parental leave may contribute to the gap between the U.S. and other countries in maternal death.
Ethiopia: Only 16% of births are attended by trained staff, leading to high rates of unmedicated, unassisted birth. Lack of access and infrastructure is being addressed by Doctors Without Borders in some regions
Top Countries for cesarean: Turkey (58.4%–60%+), Dominican Republic (~62.9%), and Brazil (~55–56%) consistently rank highest. (US NEWS, CDC)

There are so many amazing ways to be a great partner! Your doula will guide you, take a childbirth education class, and most importantly know your limits so you do not pass out and become a patient too! You both deserve to be able to stay fully present and comfortable during the birth of your baby.
