UPMC Rehabilitation Institute Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowships UPMC Rehabilitation Institute offers post-professional residency programs across five sub-specialties

The four programs -- all accredited through the American Physical Therapy Association -- include:

Sports Physical Therapy
Neurological Physical Therapy
Orthopaedic Physical Therapy
Women's Rehab Physical Therapy
Geriatric Physical Therapy

The duration of each program is 12 - 18 months and includes mentored clinical experience with ABPTS board-certified physical therapists, bo

ard-certified surgeons, primary care providers, and leading specialists with clinical expertise in the respective subspecialty. There are structured learning opportunities such as didactic coursework, teaching conferences, journal clubs, and case presentations incorporated into each residency plan of study. Residents are employed by UPMC Rehabilitation Institute and receive a stipend salary, educational benefits, and a full-time employee benefit package.

This week we wrapped up another excellent PT Residency Rounds presentation with Jenna Erwin (Women’s Health) and David Salazar II (Ortho) presenting on “Where Women’s Health Meets Orthopedics: Menopause-Related Changes in Shoulder Function.”

Jenna and David shared an excellent presentation on an important and evolving topic, generating thoughtful discussion and collaboration across disciplines.

A great way to close out another outstanding season of Residency Rounds presentations. We’re grateful for the meaningful contributions, thoughtful conversation, and collaboration from all five of our UPMC Rehabilitation Institute Physical Therapy Residency Programs.

UPMC Rehabilitation Institute residents and faculty were proud to participate in National Senior Health & Fitness Day at the Pittsburgh Zoo this week.

Representing our Geriatric and Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency programs were Geriatric resident Cassie Kirsch, Neurologic resident Maddie Hancock, Geriatric Residency Program Director Amanda McKenna, and Geriatric Residency faculty member Gerri Grzybek. The team provided fall screenings and shared education on fall prevention and home safety with community members throughout the day.
