Autistic burnout is exhausting and draining. It can be difficult to navigate and recover from. Learning how to notice autistic burnout, including the triggers and signs, can be beneficial in identifying autistic burnout before it becomes debilitating. Creating a recovery plan including those you can reach out to support can be helpful relieving burnout🫶🏻

We are so excited to welcome Em Withers to our Elements fam!! 💗🪲 Originally from North Carolina, Em has lived in the east end of Pittsburgh since 2018. Em's lived experience with mental illness drew her to this field and shaped her non-judgmental and non-pathologizing approach to therapy. Her background in the performing and literary arts and DIY music scenes informs her imaginative and flexible style.

Em applies a systemic and intersectional lens to her work, acknowledging the very real impact of cultural, structural, and sociopolitical conditions on mental wellness. Through the practice of existential psychotherapy, Em helps clients to make sense of their lives and uncover meaning, empowering clients to step into their authenticity and face the unknown with courage and resilience. She also draws from dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), guiding clients in developing a repertoire of mindfulness, somatic, and communication skills to manage distress and improve interpersonal relationships.

Em shows up to sessions with humility and adaptability, collaborating with clients to personalize treatment and changing gears when needed. Though therapy can be a seriously tough undertaking, Em believes in infusing humor and fun into the process. She is sex-positive and LGBTQIA2S+-affirming. She particularly enjoys working with anxiety disorders, neurodivergence, life transitions, complex trauma, anger, relationship issues (with family, romantic partners, or friends), and substance use disorder.

Whether you're entrenched in emotional pain, spinning your wheels in long-held patterns and thought processes, or experiencing any other detriment to psychological wellness, you've recognized that something in your life warrants a change. Em will support you on the (often unpredictable and bumpy) path of personal exploration and healing. Therapy is a profoundly human endeavor that allows us to untangle the past and live more fully in the present, thus enabling us to alter the trajectory of our futures. Em considers it an honor to help others forge ahead in the face of life's challenges. She is available evenings and weekends.
