Today marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that the last enslaved people in the state were free—over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. We celebrate black culture, resilience, and their contribution to American history. In our community, we protect and support our members of color and encourage them to never stop sharing their stories of injustice. We stand by you and offer a safe space to be exactly who you are.
