My fellow Brooklyn-ites and Ice Box & Sütő family:

First, thank you all so much for the overwhelming support you have shown us these past few days. It has been bananas to say the least.

Second, we understand that a lot of info is going around as some people learn about our predicament for the first time, and others who have been following try and summarize for them.

Then of course we have the inevitable bickering - taking sides - that is a requirement & honestly the lifeblood of any good “residents of” social media pages (being sarcastic of course).

As our closest advocates shared yesterday, we are not, have never been, will never be anti fire fighter. Matt himself was a volunteer for decades as was the rest of his family. So please do NOT make this about the EBFD right now. Yes, the town fire service, as a whole needs attention, but the BOFC commission is working on that on a professional level. (Their next meeting is Wednesday I’ll share the agenda & zoom link in the comments.)

BUT back to today, since time is of the essence here for us I ask that anyone interested in helping us follow this group event link. There is some background information there but more importantly there is information on how you can help (emails of support etc.)

Having been a government employee in the past I am painfully aware at the speed in which anything gets resolved at higher levels. Asking for something to be expedited is like pulling teeth.

With that being said, we have been asking for this to be over for years, before it even started, in fact. So yep… a lot of time and attention will have to be devoted to our plight this week, but had any of this been addressed over the past several years, none of us would be in this incredibly stressful situation right now.

We have finally been contacted by media outlets who are expected to be in town this week. If they seek out public comment, I hope you would consider this message: Sometimes bad things happen to good people. But if we can come together now and make it right we can then start to work together and rebuild/strengthen our community.

This isn’t a time for anger and accusations. That’s not who we are as a family or our as a business. We want to fix this, move on, and sell lots of ice cream for years to come. This week is about activism and action. That’s what we need from our community now.
