👂 What is an Audiologist?

An audiologist is a healthcare professional who specializes in hearing and balance.

They help identify and manage:
• Hearing loss
• Auditory processing challenges
• Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
• Balance and dizziness concerns

For children, audiologists play an important role in making sure hearing is supporting speech and language development. If a child can’t hear sounds clearly, it can impact how they learn to talk and understand others.

Audiologists can:
• Perform hearing evaluations
• Recommend hearing supports if needed
• Work alongside speech therapists to support communication

If you have concerns about your child’s hearing, getting it checked is an important first step, PFG Therapy can help you identify if an audiology visit is something you or your child needs💙

✏️ What is Written Language?

Written language is how we read, write, and express ideas on paper—and it’s a key part of school success.

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) don’t just work on talking—they also support written language skills, including:
• Understanding what we read (reading comprehension)
• Organizing thoughts into sentences and stories
• Grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure
• Spelling and early writing skills

If a child has difficulty with spoken language, it can often impact how they read and write too.

That’s where speech therapy can help—by building a strong language foundation that supports both spoken and written communication.

If your child struggles with reading, writing, or expressing their ideas, we’re here to help. 💙

💚 Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

Mental health and daily life are deeply connected—and that’s where occupational therapy comes in.

OT supports the skills we use every day to function, connect, and feel regulated. From managing sensory input to building routines, communication, and coping strategies, these everyday skills play a powerful role in our overall mental wellness.

This month, we’re highlighting how OT can support mental health by helping individuals:
🧠 Develop self-regulation and coping tools
👐 Understand and respond to sensory needs
🗣️ Build communication and social confidence
🌱 Create routines that support balance and well-being

Mental health isn’t just about how we feel—it’s about how we live, engage, and participate in the world around us.

Support can look like small, meaningful changes that make everyday life feel more manageable 💛

You don’t have to do it alone.

Noticing your child sticking their tongue out when they swallow or speak? 👅

It could be something called a tongue thrust—and it’s more common than you might think.

Tongue thrust can impact:
• Speech sounds (like /s/, /z/, “sh,” “ch”)
• Swallowing patterns
• Dental alignment and orthodontic outcomes

The good news? Speech therapy can help.

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) use targeted exercises and techniques (often called myofunctional therapy) to:
• Improve tongue placement
• Support proper swallowing patterns
• Strengthen oral muscles
• Enhance speech clarity

Early support can make a big difference—not just for speech, but for long-term oral development.

Have questions or concerns? We’re here to help guide you every step of the way.

Is your child constantly on the move—or avoiding movement altogether? 🤸

Balance is a key part of your child’s development, and it plays a bigger role than you might think. From walking on uneven surfaces to sitting upright in a chair, balance helps children feel steady, confident, and in control of their bodies.

When balance is challenging, you might notice:
• Frequent falls or clumsiness
• Trouble navigating playground equipment
• Difficulty sitting still or staying upright
• Avoidance of swings, climbing, or jumping

That’s where occupational therapy comes in.

OT helps children build balance through fun, play-based activities that strengthen the body, improve coordination, and support the sensory systems (like the vestibular system) that keep us steady.

At our clinic, we focus on helping kids feel confident in their movements—so they can play, learn, and explore their world with ease.

Have questions about your child’s balance? We’re here to help.
